Job description:

We are seeking a Chief Engineer to oversee the comprehensive maintenance of our hotel facility, ensuring the optimal condition of the physical building structure, mechanical, electrical, and H.V.A.C. systems, as well as related equipment, in alignment with energy conservation and preventative maintenance programs. This role is crucial in maintaining the aesthetic appeal of guest areas and the hotel grounds while managing rehabilitation, expansion, and special projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine walk-throughs to assess the safety and efficiency of the hotel’s physical structures and systems, including mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C., pool, and whirlpool facilities.
  • Assign and verify the completion of all routine maintenance on public areas, meeting rooms, restaurants, back-of-house spaces, and grounds, along with repairs, replacements, and renovations in offices and employee work areas.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and discipline department staff, ensuring high performance and adherence to standards under the Maintenance Department.
  • Comply with all corporate purchasing policies, managing outside contractor bids, budgets, and schedules.
  • Maintain and enhance Energy Management and Preventative Maintenance programs, providing specialized training for other departments on the safe and efficient use of hotel equipment and energy.
  • Regularly update the General Manager on the condition of the building’s structures and systems, presenting practical and cost-effective maintenance proposals.
  • Input data into a computer system and generate relevant reports as necessary.
  • Ensure a sufficient supply of materials and equipment to support daily operations and maintenance activities.
  • Organize and maintain efficient administrative and filing systems within Property Operations for managing correspondence, reports, purchase requisitions, and other departmental needs.
  • Establish a well-defined inventory and storage system for tools and materials necessary for departmental activities.
  • Be readily available to respond to hotel emergencies requiring the expertise of the Maintenance Department, such as fires, equipment failures, floods, and other significant incidents.
  • Perform additional duties as required, including coordinating and supervising special guest requests for room or meeting space modifications, as well as supporting the construction of props for hotel events.
