Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers play a vital role in the nation’s food supply chain. Our drivers are responsible for ensuring that customers receive their products in a timely manner and in excellent condition, while also serving as the face of our company and building lasting relationships with our clients.
The driver will operate a tractor trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. This position necessitates delivering and unloading food and related products to customers safely and punctually in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
– Engage and communicate with customers, vendors, and co-workers professionally, ensuring that inquiries are addressed accurately and promptly.
– Collaborate as a team member within the department and organization, performing any assigned duties to best support company operations.
– Conduct all safety checks as required (i.e., pre/post trip inspections) on the vehicle and trailer according to DOT regulations; ensure that safety standards are met and take necessary actions as required.
– Report any safety issues or repairs needed.
– Adhere to all DOT regulations and company guidelines for safe driving.
– Immediately report any safety hazards and inspect trailers to ensure freight is properly loaded and secured.
– Perform item count checks and verify customer invoices for loaded products.
– Complete all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly.
– Position tractor at loading docks and attach preloaded trailers as necessary.
– Drive and deliver customer orders according to the predetermined delivery schedule.
– Unload products from the trailer and transport items to designated customer storage areas.
– Conduct damage control checks on items, scan products, and communicate with supervisors regarding any order removals as per company policy.
– Confirm deliveries with customers and obtain appropriate signatures.
– Collect payment (cash or checks) when required, load customer returns onto the trailer, and secure trailer doors.
– Ensure the tractor, trailer, and freight are securely locked and maintained.
– Unload damaged goods and customer returns, bringing them to driver check-in and completing required documentation. Remove all equipment and trash from trailers as necessary.
– Maintain a daily record of hours of service in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company regulations.
– Undertake general housekeeping duties in the tractor and loading dock area, ensuring trailers are kept clear and clean.
– At the end of each shift, secure all equipment and complete necessary paperwork.
– Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
– High school diploma/GED or a state-approved equivalent.
– A minimum of 12 months of commercial driving experience.
– Valid CDL-A license.
– Must be at least 21 years of age.
– Compliance with all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable.
– Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
– Successful completion of post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
– Passing score on the road test.
– Valid DOT Health Card or the ability to acquire a new DOT Health Card.
– Capability to hand-lift and utilize two-wheelers, lift gates, and other equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of varying sizes and weights throughout the shift, with products generally ranging from 10-35 pounds and up to 60-90 pounds, depending on the location.
