Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers play a vital role in the nation’s food supply chain. Our drivers ensure that products arrive at their destination safely and on time. They are the face of our company, building lasting relationships with our customers.

The driver is responsible for operating a tractor-trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate routes. This includes local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. Drivers will deliver and/or unload food and related products, ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and maintaining safety standards throughout the process.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Communicate professionally and interact positively with customers, vendors, and colleagues, ensuring inquiries are addressed accurately and promptly.
  • Collaborate as a team member within the department and organization, performing assigned duties to best serve the company’s interests.
  • Conduct all required safety checks, including pre/post-trip inspections of the tractor/truck and trailer, adhering to DOT regulations and company safety standards.
  • Report any safety issues or repairs needed promptly.
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company driving guidelines.
  • Immediately report safety hazards, ensuring secure loading of freight.
  • Perform count checks of items and verify customer invoices.
  • Accurately complete all required paperwork associated with freight.
  • Maneuver the tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailers as necessary.
  • Drive to deliver customer orders according to a predetermined schedule.
  • Unload products, transporting them into designated customer storage areas.
  • Conduct damage control checks on items, scan products, and communicate with supervision regarding order removals based on company policy.
  • Verify deliveries with customers, obtaining the required signatures.
  • Collect payments (cash or checks) as needed and secure customer returns in the trailer.
  • Ensure that the tractor, trailer, and freight are secured at all times.
  • Handle damaged goods and customer returns appropriately, performing necessary administrative tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records of hours of service and log them according to federal, state, and company requirements.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties within the tractor, loading dock area, and trailers.
  • Secure all equipment and complete necessary paperwork at the end of the shift.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 12 months of commercial driving experience.
  • High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent state-approved certification.
  • Valid CDL A license.
  • Compliance with all state licensing and certification requirements (where applicable).
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the last three years.
  • Ability to pass a post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
  • Successful completion of a road test.
  • Valid current DOT Health Card or the ability to obtain one.
  • Physical ability to lift and move products, utilizing equipment to handle cases/freight ranging from 10 to 90 pounds, depending on location.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Over one year of commercial driving experience.
  • Experience in the foodservice distribution industry.
  • Familiarity with onboard computer and electronic log systems (e.g., PeopleNet).
  • Experience with handheld point of delivery scanning systems (e.g., POD).
