Job description:
The Convention Services Manager is responsible for achieving assigned convention and event objectives that align with the overall performance of the hotel. This role involves effectively servicing clients and groups while maintaining the contracted food and beverage minimums. The Convention Services Manager will collaborate with the Director of Sales or the Director of Catering/Convention Services to fulfill revenue goals, enhance meeting planner satisfaction scores, and meet food and beverage targets for one or more assigned properties. Management-level associates are expected to dedicate the necessary time during their workday to complete their responsibilities; for OEM associates, overtime is applicable and calculated accordingly.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; prior experience in convention/event planning and catering sales is preferred.
- A creative mindset and a solid understanding of food and beverage offerings and event planning are desired.
- A valid driver’s license for the applicable state is essential.
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively negotiate, persuade, sell, and influence other managerial personnel, hotel guests, and corporate clients.
- Experience in professional selling skills such as opening, probing, supporting, and closing is preferred.
- Proficiency in general computer knowledge, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, is required.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks simultaneously; strong organizational and presentation skills are necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Achieve assigned meeting planner satisfaction scores, revenue objectives, and food and beverage targets.
- Proactively engage in solicitation calls, conduct property tours, and entertain clients while addressing their specific needs.
- Monitor and assess market segment trends.
- Approach all interactions with guests and employees in a friendly, attentive, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
- Adhere to Aimbridge Hospitality’s established regulations, company standards, and related catering sales metrics.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of hotel operations, policies, and applicable departmental functions.
- Ensure timely delivery (within 10 days) of accurate banquet event orders.
- Communicate any changes promptly to affected departments and operations leaders.
- Maintain a strong presence within the local community and relevant industry organizations.
- Participate in or assist with the implementation of special promotions related to direct sales segments, such as sales blitzes.
- Attend daily, weekly, and monthly meetings, as well as any other functions required by management.
- Perform other duties as requested by the General Manager or Director of Sales.
