Job description:
Butterworth Hospital, located at 100 Michigan St. NE in Grand Rapids, is seeking dedicated team members to join our Nutrition Services department. This part-time position requires availability from 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Sunday, with variable weekend shifts.
Pay: Starting at $16.43 per hour.
Job Summary:
We are looking for passionate individuals who are committed to providing exceptional food options for our patients, guests, and fellow team members. Our Cooks play a vital role in the preparation and execution of all hot and cold meals served in our restaurants, room service, and grab-and-go markets. Key responsibilities encompass line cooking, prep cooking, vegetable preparation, short-order cooking, catering, and mise en place.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct hot food preparation, including frying, baking, broiling, braising, and grilling. Prepare soups, cereals, eggs, entrees, vegetables, and other food items as needed, while monitoring food quantity requirements in response to varying customer counts and volumes.
- Assemble and prepare ingredients for cooking by cleaning and cutting as necessary.
- Adhere to standardized recipes, accurately calculating ingredient amounts based on weight and volume.
- Evaluate food quality, ensuring optimal presentation concerning taste, texture, and visual appeal, while maintaining appropriate food temperatures.
- Record temperatures accurately on temperature log sheets, ensuring that any food items failing to meet our standards are replaced.
- Store food items according to established guidelines, labeling and dating items appropriately, and effectively utilizing leftovers within the designated timeframe.
- Set up steam tables for patient and cafeteria tray lines.
- Collaborate with other staff members to ensure seamless service continuity and coordination.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in food preparation or service.
- Certification in CRT-ServSafe Allergen from the NRA National Restaurant Association (valid for 90 days).
- Certification in either CRT-ServSafe Handler or CRT-ServSafe Manager from the NRA National Restaurant Association (valid for 90 days).
Preferred:
- Completion of vocational/technical courses in food preparation.
- Completion of a baking education course lasting sixteen weeks to one year, focusing on cake decorating techniques.
