Job description:

As a Cook, you will be integral to the preparation and execution of both hot and cold meals across our restaurants, room service, and grab-and-go markets. Your role will encompass various culinary tasks, including line cooking, food preparation, vegetable prep, short-order cooking, catering, and mise en place, allowing you to showcase your culinary talents and positively impact those we serve each day.

Essential Functions:

  • Execute hot food preparation techniques such as frying, baking, broiling, braising, and grilling. Prepare a variety of items including soups, cereals, eggs, entrees, vegetables, and other necessary food items. Adapt to fluctuating food quantity needs based on customer counts or volume.
  • Assemble and prepare cooking ingredients by performing necessary cleaning and cutting.
  • Adhere to standardized recipes, accurately calculating ingredients based on weight and volume.
  • Monitor food quality, ensuring satisfactory taste, texture, and visual appeal while maintaining appropriate food temperatures.
  • Document food temperatures accurately on temperature logs and proactively replace items that fail to meet our standards.
  • Store food items according to institutional standards, ensuring proper labeling and dating, while utilizing leftovers within designated timeframes.
  • Set up steam tables for patient and cafeteria tray lines.
  • Collaborate with fellow staff members to ensure continuity and coordination of services.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in food service or equivalent experience.
  • CRT-ServSafe Allergen certification from the NRA National Restaurant Association within 90 days of employment.
  • CRT-ServSafe Handler certification or CRT-ServSafe Manager certification from the NRA National Restaurant Association within 90 days of employment.

Preferred:

  • Completion of vocational or technical courses in food preparation.
  • Completion of a sixteen-week to one-year course in baking education and cake decorating techniques.
