Job description:

We are currently seeking a part-time Cook to join our team at the Detroit Institute of Arts, located at 5200 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48202. Please note that applications will only be accepted online.

The schedule for this position will be full-time, running from Tuesday through Sunday, with hours that may vary. Specific details regarding the schedule will be discussed during the interview process. Prior culinary experience is preferred for this role.

As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing food in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations, while ensuring that quality food service is consistently provided.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions to meet production, delivery, and service schedules.
  • Serve meals or prepare them for delivery, adhering to correct portioning and presentation standards, and ensuring food is served at the appropriate temperature and taste. Sample all prepared food items.
  • Follow established ticket collection procedures during service and maintain accurate records for the area worked.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen after food preparation and service, adhering to high standards of cleanliness. Properly store or discard excess food following safe food-handling procedures.
  • Keep refrigerators and storerooms organized and ensure that food and supplies are stored according to standards.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment as directed.
  • Assist in production planning, record keeping, and reporting as necessary.
  • Support the ordering and receiving of food and supplies.
  • Immediately report any needed maintenance, faulty equipment, or accidents to the supervisor.
  • Attend in-service and safety meetings regularly.
  • Foster good working relationships with coworkers, customers, administrators, and managers.
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment, performing duties safely.
  • Perform any other assigned duties.
  • Maintain proper presentation, portion control, and serving temperatures, following HACCP standards.
  • Commit to personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including the use of safety equipment such as cut gloves, oven mitts, and slip-resistant shoes.
