JOB OVERVIEW
The Cook leverages their culinary expertise and experience to ensure the accurate, timely, and safe preparation and presentation of meals, adhering to established recipes while complying with all food safety and sanitation standards. In the absence of the Dining Services Coordinator, this role is responsible for effectively overseeing all aspects of food production.

RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS
Responsibilities:

  • Upholding high standards for food taste and quality at all times.
  • Preparing and serving meals promptly, in accordance with established standardized recipes and menus.
  • Utilizing production sheets to accurately track food production volumes and cooking, holding, and cooling temperatures.
  • Preparing dietary modifications as prescribed.
  • Employing Sunrise systems according to guidelines for accurate order taking and meal delivery.
  • Stocking, rotating, dating, and storing products in compliance with food safety standards and regulations.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization within the kitchen, storage, and work areas.
  • Completing assigned cleaning duties and ensuring accuracy in daily and weekly cleaning logs.
  • Keeping accurate equipment logs and promptly reporting any issues.
  • Maintaining cooking equipment in safe, functional condition and reporting any problems immediately.
  • Adhering to OSHA/British Columbia Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation requirements, as well as Compliance with Risk Management programs and policies, ensuring safety regulations, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Lockout Tagout procedures, are followed.
  • Undertaking additional Dining Services tasks as directed by community leadership in areas such as:
    • Dishwashing responsibilities to effectively wash and sanitize all kitchenware and cookware.
    • Operating dish machine(s) per manufacturer instructions.
    • Performing light janitorial duties, including sweeping, sanitizing production areas, and disposing of trash.
    • Cleaning assigned kitchen equipment, including but not limited to stoves, ovens, fryers, microwaves, mixers, slicers, refrigerators, freezers, worktables, prep sinks, ice makers, coffee machines, hoods, and ventilation screens.
    • Assisting with service in dining areas as needed.

  • Contributing to overall engagement initiatives for both residents and team members.
  • Attending regular meetings, including Town Hall, Department Team, and Cross Over meetings as directed by the Dining Services Coordinator (DSC).
  • Maintaining compliance with assigned training requirements as well as any training mandated by state/province or regulatory authorities ensuring Sunrise standards are consistently met.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in food preparation within a restaurant, hotel, or similar environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Required certifications and ongoing training, including:
    • CPR Certificate and First Aid Certificate.
    • ServSafe® Manager Certificate.
    • Local Health Department Food Handler Card.
  • Culinary apprenticeship or training is a plus.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, strong problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
