The Cook will leverage their expertise in food production to ensure the timely, safe, and proper preparation and service of meals according to established recipes, while strictly adhering to all food safety and sanitation requirements. This role also involves overseeing all aspects of food production in the absence of the Dining Services Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
In alignment with the Sunrise mission and core values, the Cook will undertake a variety of essential functions, including but not limited to:
- Upholding high standards for food taste and quality at all times.
- Preparing and serving meals promptly, following standardized recipes and menus.
- Utilizing production sheets to accurately track food production quantities and maintaining appropriate cooking, holding, and cooling temperatures.
- Modifying diets as required by orders.
- Utilizing Sunrise systems for order taking and meal delivery to ensure accuracy.
- Storing and rotating products according to food safety standards.
- Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, storage, and work areas.
- Completing assigned cleaning duties and ensuring the accuracy of daily and weekly cleaning logs.
- Keeping accurate logs for equipment use and reporting any issues promptly.
- Ensuring all cooking equipment is safe and in working order, addressing concerns as necessary.
- Complying with OSHA and relevant health and safety regulations, while practicing safety procedures consistently, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Performing additional Dining Services duties as assigned, which may include:
- Dishwashing tasks to properly clean and sanitize all utensils and cookware.
- Operating dish machines according to manufacturer instructions.
- Conducting light janitorial tasks, such as sweeping and sanitizing production areas.
- Cleaning kitchen equipment, including stoves, ovens, fryers, and refrigerators.
- Assisting with service in dining areas as needed.
Collaboration, Engagement, and Team Success:
The Cook will actively engage in team goals, exemplifying our Team Member Credo in daily interactions and committing themselves to serving residents and guests. Participation in overall engagement programs for both residents and team members is also essential, as is attending regular meetings as directed by the Dining Services Coordinator. Compliance with required training, including state and provincial mandates, is necessary to maintain Sunrise standards.
Qualifications:
Candidates should possess the following:
- A minimum of one year of relevant experience in food preparation in a restaurant, hotel, or similar setting.
- A High School Diploma or GED.
- Necessary certifications and ongoing training as required by Sunrise and applicable regulations, including:
- CPR and First Aid certifications.
- ServSafe® Manager Certificate.
- Local Health Department Food Handler Card.
- Culinary apprenticeship or training is advantageous.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Sound judgment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
