Job Overview
The Cook leverages their expertise in food production to ensure the safe, timely, and proper preparation and service of meals in accordance with established recipes. This role adheres to all food safety and sanitation protocols while maintaining a clean and organized kitchen. The Cook is also responsible for effectively managing all food production tasks in the absence of the Dining Services Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

The unique responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following essential functions:

  • Upholding high standards for food taste and quality at all times.
  • Preparing and serving meals promptly, adhering to established standardized recipes and menus.
  • Accurately recording food production quantities and cooking temperatures using production sheets.
  • Implementing dietary modifications as specified by orders.
  • Utilizing Sunrise systems for order taking and meal delivery to ensure accuracy.
  • Stocking, rotating, dating, and storing products in accordance with food safety standards and regulations.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, storage, and workspaces.
  • Completing assigned cleaning tasks and ensuring the accuracy of daily and weekly cleaning logs.
  • Keeping accurate logs for equipment and promptly reporting any issues.
  • Ensuring all cooking equipment remains in safe, working order and reporting issues swiftly.
  • Complying with OSHA/British Columbia Workers Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Regulation requirements, and Risk Management protocols. Adhering to safety rules, regulations, and procedures, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Lockout Tagout procedures.
  • Performing additional Dining Services tasks as assigned by community leadership, which may include:
    • Dishwashing responsibilities to ensure sanitation of all dining utensils and cookware.
    • Operating dish machines per manufacturer instructions.
    • Conducting light janitorial duties, such as cleaning workspaces and managing waste disposal.
    • Cleaning assigned kitchen equipment, including stoves, ovens, fryers, and other appliances.
    • Assisting with service in dining areas as necessary.

Collaboration, Engagement, and Team Success:

  • Actively participating and committing to team goals.
  • Demonstrating our Team Member Credo in daily interactions.
  • Committing to serving our residents and guests according to our Principles of Service.
  • Contributing to overall engagement initiatives for both residents and team members.
  • Attending regular meetings, including Town Hall and departmental team gatherings as directed by the Dining Services Coordinator (DSC).
  • Maintaining compliance in required training and adhering to training mandated by state/province or regulating authorities to ensure adherence to Sunrise standards.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in food preparation within a restaurant, hotel, or similar setting.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Commitment to obtaining and maintaining the following certifications and ongoing training as required by Sunrise and relevant regulations:
    • CPR and First Aid Certificates.
    • ServSafe® Manager Certification.
    • Local Health Department Food Handler Card.
  • Prior culinary apprenticeship or training is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Demonstrated judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
