JOB OVERVIEW
The Cook leverages their culinary expertise and experience in food production to guarantee the timely, safe, and accurate preparation and service of meals in accordance with established recipes and food safety regulations. This role also involves managing food production effectively in the absence of the Dining Services Coordinator.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As an integral member of the Sunrise team, you will embody our Mission, Principles of Service, and Core Values, which center on the intrinsic value of human life. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Upholding exceptional standards of food taste and quality consistently.
- Preparing and serving meals promptly, adhering to standardized recipes and menus.
- Accurately recording food production quantities and monitoring cooking, holding, and cooling temperatures using production sheets.
- Preparing dietary modifications as required.
- Utilizing Sunrise systems for order accuracy in meal delivery and taking.
- Ensuring products are stored, dated, rotated, and stocked according to food safety standards.
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, storage, and work areas.
- Completing assigned cleaning duties while ensuring the accuracy of daily and weekly cleaning logs.
- Keeping equipment logs up to date and promptly reporting any issues.
- Ensuring all cooking equipment is maintained in safe working order, with prompt issue reporting.
- Adhering to OSHA regulations as well as the British Columbia Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, while practicing safety measures at all times, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Lockout Tagout procedures.
- Performing additional Dining Services duties as directed by community leadership, including:
- Dishwashing responsibilities, ensuring proper washing and sanitization of all dining utensils and cookware.
- Operating dish machines according to manufacturer specifications.
- Conducting light janitorial duties, such as sweeping, sanitizing production areas, and managing waste disposal.
- Cleaning kitchen equipment, including stoves, ovens, fryers, microwaves, and others.
- Assisting with service in dining areas as required.

- Ensure compliance with all required training and state/provincial regulations relevant to this role, thereby maintaining Sunrise standards consistently.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience, including food preparation in a restaurant, hotel, or similar environment.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current certifications and ongoing training as mandated by Sunrise and applicable regulations, including:
- CPR and First Aid Certificates.
- ServSafe® Manager Certificate.
- Local Health Department Food Handler Card.
- Culinary apprenticeship or relevant training is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational and time management capabilities.
- Proven judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
