Responsibilities:

  • Generate high-quality radiographic images through precise patient positioning and selection of appropriate technical factors. Operate CT scanners, power injectors, and post-processing equipment, adjusting protocols to suit patient needs as necessary. Critically evaluate completed procedures to ensure high diagnostic quality.
  • Conduct general radiography examinations as required.
  • Maintain a repeat rate in compliance with national standards.
  • Exhibit familiarity with diagnostic imaging terminology and procedures, demonstrating a thorough understanding of front desk and file room operations.
  • Communicate delays to patients, explain procedures to ensure patient comfort, and gather comprehensive patient histories in preparation for examinations.
  • Select the suitable equipment and effectively set it up in accordance with procedural protocols, specifications, and standards.
  • Evaluate the technical quality of images and proficiently record, archive, retrieve, compile, and calculate relevant data.
  • Independently assist radiologists during invasive procedures, such as biopsies and abscess drainages.
  • Position patients accurately based on the anatomy in question, providing precise measurements and educating them about the procedures in a clear manner, while adhering to age-specific guidelines.
  • Obtain complete and pertinent patient histories and relay essential information to the radiologist, consulting as necessary regarding patient care and protocols.
  • Uphold patient and employee confidentiality in accordance with client privacy policies and comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Demonstrate safe and effective operation, calibration, and preventive maintenance of all related equipment.
  • Report unusual events or deviations from standard business or clinical activities to Diagnostic Imaging Management and propose ideas for enhancement.
  • Engage in educational and staff meetings, attend departmental meetings or review minutes, and participate in training for students or new employees as assigned.
  • Accept and execute additional duties as assigned.
  • Perform routine cleaning of the workspace and equipment, maintaining a complete inventory of necessary supplies.
  • Ensure safe transport and transfer of patients in accordance with transport policies, utilizing appropriate restraints, side rails, and related safety measures.
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives or committees.

Requirements:
Minimum

  • Competent in performing computed tomography imaging procedures independently and accurately.
  • Capability to establish and maintain sterile venous access via intravenous catheter.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as an ARRT-registered radiologic technologist.
  • Prior experience in performing computed tomography procedures.

Essential Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in operating a computer and associated peripherals, as well as navigating the Microsoft Windows operating system.
  • Familiar with utilizing telecommunication devices, including telephones, fax machines, and electronic messaging systems.
  • Ability to read efficiently and accurately to obtain clinical and relevant information.
  • Skilled in operating and utilizing imaging equipment in the designated area.

Physical Requirements:

  • Capability to work while sitting, walking, and/or standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform forward reaching, bending, pulling, twisting, lifting, and turning associated with patient transport and equipment handling.
  • Ability to push wheelchairs or stretchers throughout the healthcare facility.

Education:
Minimum

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registered in Radiography.
  • Documentation of at least 20 hours of training and experience in operating CT equipment, radiation physics, and radiation protection per State of Michigan guidelines for CT operators.
  • As of September 1, 2011: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) advanced registry in Computed Tomography (or eligible for CT registry). CT registry-eligible candidates must achieve CT registered status with the ARRT within nine months of accepting the position.
  • Associate degree in allied health.
