Job description:

This professional sales position is accountable for driving new business development while meeting designated business objectives and enhancing the overall customer experience. The successful candidate will achieve these goals by maintaining industry and category-specific certifications and directly engaging with customers through both internal and external business reviews. As a pivotal member of the team-based selling model, the culinary specialist will act as an ambassador for the Sysco brand, promoting innovation and Category Management (CatMan) products, and will seize all opportunities to secure sales. The role entails representing Sysco at culinary events and within relevant industry organizations. Additional responsibilities may include overseeing kitchen assistants or culinary interns. Culinary specialists will prioritize their time, targets, and collaborative selling strategies based on market insights and data analytics.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing targeted culinary strategies to fulfill individual and regional annual business goals, resulting in profitable sales growth and market penetration.
  • Collaborating with the Director of Business Resources to leverage data for identifying key opportunities for business reviews.
  • Working alongside sales partners to accurately assess customer challenges and needs, delivering innovative and effective solutions to bolster customer business and increase sales.
  • Monitoring activities and results, collaborating on opportunities, and guiding the team selling process through Salesforce, Sysco’s CRM tool.
  • Utilizing product sampling as a strategic tool to facilitate sales closures.
  • Staying informed about market trends, product innovations, and competitor landscapes, and sharing relevant insights with customers as part of the value-added services provided.
  • Organizing and facilitating internal/external food shows and catering events.
  • Coordinating kitchen logistics in support of culinary events.
  • Fostering and maintaining relationships with customers, chefs, and sales teams through active participation in local events, culinary competitions, culinary schools, and other pertinent opportunities.
  • Providing product specification advice to sales teams and serving as an authority on Cutting Edge Solutions/innovations, Sysco Brand, and CatMan products.
  • Supporting employee training by collaborating with sales to conduct training sessions and demonstrations.
  • Overseeing all operations of the test kitchen/culinary center, ensuring compliance with sanitation, product rotation, laundry services, and the overall organization and presentation of equipment and facilities.
  • Managing test kitchen food and supply expenses within established budgetary limits.
  • Ensuring compliance with local and state food safety and health regulations.
  • Assisting during inspections conducted by regulatory agencies in the kitchen/culinary center.
  • Directing the work of culinary staff, third-party vendors, and sanitation personnel as necessary.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 3 years of executive chef experience in the foodservice industry.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent culinary certification, along with 3+ years of foodservice sales experience.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in culinary operations and understanding of food trends.
  • Possession of necessary internal and external certifications may be required.
  • Strong financial acumen, with the ability to articulate information in terms of profit and loss, food cost, and expense ratios.
  • Proven success in consultative selling and networking.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders.
