Job description:
This professional sales position is responsible for driving new business growth with the objective of meeting assigned business goals while enhancing the overall customer experience. Success in this role will be achieved through the maintenance of industry and category-specific certification status and by actively selling categories to customers during both internal and external business reviews. As a culinary specialist, you will play a pivotal role in a team-based selling model, acting as an ambassador for the Sysco brand, fostering innovation, and promoting Category Management (CatMan) products. You will capitalize on all opportunities to close sales with customers and represent Sysco at culinary events and relevant industry organizations. Additionally, this position may entail supervising kitchen assistants or culinary interns. The specialist will prioritize time, targets, and collaborative selling efforts based on market insights and data analytics.

Responsibilities include:

– Developing and executing targeted culinary strategies to achieve individual and regional annual business goals, resulting in profitable sales growth and increased penetration across various categories, specialty segments, and Sysco brands.
– Coordinating with the Director of Business Resources to leverage data for identifying key opportunities during business reviews.
– Collaborating with sales partners to accurately identify customer challenges, needs, or opportunities and delivering innovative solutions to enhance customer business and drive case growth.
– Tracking activities and results using Salesforce (Sysco’s CRM tool), promoting collaboration on opportunities, and championing the team selling process.
– Utilizing sampling effectively in a solutions-oriented approach to close sales.
– Remaining informed about market conditions, product innovations, and competitor offerings; sharing valuable insights with customers as part of enhanced service delivery.
– Facilitating internal and external food shows, catering, and event planning activities.
– Coordinating logistics in support of internal and external culinary events.
– Building and maintaining relationships with customers, chefs, and sales teams through active participation in local events, culinary competitions, culinary schools, and other relevant initiatives.
– Advising the sales team on product specifications while serving as an expert on Cutting Edge Solutions, innovation items, Sysco Brand, and CatMan products.
– Assisting with employee training by working with sales teams to facilitate training sessions and demonstrations.
– Overseeing the operations of the test kitchen/culinary center, including sanitation, product rotation, laundry services, and general upkeep of equipment and facilities.
– Managing test kitchen food and supply costs while adhering to budgetary constraints.
– Ensuring compliance with local and state food safety and health code regulations and accompanying regulatory agency inspections of the kitchen/culinary center.
– Providing work direction to additional culinary staff and third-party vendors as necessary.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

– Minimum requirement of a high school diploma or GED, accompanied by a minimum of 3 years of executive chef experience in the food service industry.
– Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or equivalent culinary degree and at least 3 years of food service sales experience.

Knowledge & Skills:

– In-depth proficiency in culinary practices, restaurant operations, and food trends.
– Internal and external certifications may be required.
– Ability to articulate information in terms of profit and loss, food cost, and expense ratios.
– Strong financial acumen with the capability to plan and execute effective business strategies.
