Job description:
Responsible for preparing donors, the donor area, and equipment for the pheresis process.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Prepare the autopheresis machine for the pheresis process.
2. Monitor the donor and the pheresis process, responding to specific alarms or signals that may arise.
3. Disconnect the donor upon completion of the process.
4. Maintain alertness to any reactions the donor may have during or after the pheresis process and promptly notify the appropriate staff.
5. Utilize a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to document incidents during the pheresis process, including machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, and donor adverse events.
6. Use the PDA to associate equipment and consumables utilized during the pheresis process with the corresponding donor.
7. Notify the Group Leader or Supervisor of any issues related to donor flow.
8. Ensure the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
9. Comprehend the policies and procedures associated with hyperimmune programs at the center, if applicable.
10. Maintain a clean and efficient work environment, ensuring that adequate operating supplies and forms are available as needed. Adhere to all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures, and promote safety in all actions.
11. Uphold the confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
12. May be cross-trained in other areas to meet the evolving needs of the business.
13. Bilingual skills may be preferred, at the organization’s discretion, to meet the requirements of the business.
14. Perform job-related duties as assigned.
Education:
– High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
– A minimum of three (3) months of work experience, preferably in a medical or healthcare provider environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
– Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Working Conditions (physical & mental requirements):
– Ability to understand, remember, and apply both oral and written instructions.
– Capability to comprehend and adhere to basic instructions and guidelines.
– Must possess the ability to see and communicate with customers and observe equipment operations.
– Occasional requirement to stand and walk for up to 100% of the time.
– Must be able to reach, bend, kneel, and demonstrate high manual dexterity.
– Occasionally required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
– Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
– Regular exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and bloodborne pathogens.
– Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment while performing specific tasks or in designated areas.
– Will be required to work overtime and extended hours to support operational needs of the center.
