The Opportunity
In this role, you will be responsible for preparing donors, the donor area, and necessary equipment for the pheresis processes. You will report directly to the Assistant Center Manager.
The Role
– Prepare the autopheresis machine to facilitate the pheresis process.
– Monitor the donor as well as the pheresis process, and respond appropriately to any alarms or signals that arise during the procedure.
– Safely disconnect the donor upon completion of the process.
– Maintain vigilance regarding any adverse reactions from donors during or after the pheresis process, promptly notifying appropriate personnel.
– Utilize a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to document incidents occurring during the pheresis process, including machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, and donor-related adverse events.
– Employ the PDA to associate equipment and consumables used in the pheresis process with the corresponding donor.
– Notify the Group Leader or Supervisor of any issues impacting donor flow.
– Ensure accurate documentation of donor information in the electronic donor information management system, adhering to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
– Familiarize yourself with the policies and procedures related to hyperimmune programs at the center, when applicable.
– Maintain a clean and efficient work environment and ensure the availability of necessary operating supplies and forms. Adhere to all Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures, fostering a culture of safety in all actions.
– Uphold confidentiality regarding all personnel, donor, and center information.
– Be open to cross-training in other areas as required to support business needs.
– Bilingual skills may be necessary, at the organization’s discretion, to meet business requirements.
– Carry out any additional job-related duties as assigned.
Your Skills and Experience
Education
– A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience
– A minimum of three (3) months of work experience is preferred, ideally in a medical or healthcare environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
– Basic math skills are necessary for the role.
Working Conditions (Physical & Mental Requirements)
– Ability to understand, retain, and apply both oral and written instructions.
– Capacity to follow basic guidelines and directions.
– Must possess the ability to visually and verbally interact with customers and monitor equipment operations.
– Potentially required to perform tasks while standing and walking for up to 100% of the time.
– Capability to reach, bend, kneel, and demonstrate a high level of manual dexterity.
– May occasionally need to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
– Work will be in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
– Regular exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and bloodborne pathogens necessitates the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing certain tasks or in specified areas.
– Availability to work overtime and extended hours as needed to meet center operational requirements.
