Job Title: Customer Service Representative

Company: R1 RCM

Location: Hancock, MI

Pay: $14.69 – 20.28 per hour

AI Pay Analysis: The hourly rate of $14.69 to $20.28 for a Customer Service Representative in Hancock, MI, falls within the expected range for this position, though it may be on the lower end compared to some national averages. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of 2022, the median hourly wage for customer service representatives in the Midwest is slightly higher than this range, typically around $17 to $19 per hour depending on experience and company size. However, cost of living in Hancock—particularly when compared to larger urban areas—may allow for slightly lower wages to remain competitive. Overall, while the offered pay can be considered competitive for the local market, it may not fully align with broader industry standards, possibly leaving room for improvement to attract higher-quality candidates.

Job description:

Location: LifePoint Portage Hospital
Shift Hours: Sunday 10:30 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday & Tuesday 2:30 PM – 8:30 PM, every other Saturday 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

R1 is the premier provider of technology-driven solutions that enhance the patient experience and improve the financial performance of hospitals, health systems, and medical groups. We uniquely combine the extensive expertise of a global team of revenue cycle professionals with the industry’s most advanced technology platform, which includes sophisticated analytics, artificial intelligence, intelligent automation, and workflow orchestration.

As a Customer Service Representative, you will play a vital role in assisting patients as they check into the hospital. This position can be fast-paced, and you will be the critical point of contact for patients, addressing their inquiries during the registration process. Your ability to collect information efficiently and accurately, while demonstrating compassion and understanding, will help build trust with our patients as you address their fears, concerns, and questions.

To excel in this role, you must be a confident multitasker with a quick aptitude for technology, able to type and manage phone calls simultaneously. No prior healthcare experience is necessary; however, you should be prepared to navigate a hospital/laboratory environment that may include exposure to illnesses and injuries. We will provide comprehensive training to equip you with the knowledge needed for success, making this an ideal opportunity to launch your healthcare career. It is essential that you are current with all vaccinations and able to pass a drug screening and background check prior to being hired.

Expectations for working in Patient Registration (Customer Service) include:

  • Proficiently operating computers and answering phones in a bustling environment, where you will intake information across multiple screens, ensuring accurate input between physician and nurse check-ins. You should be comfortable managing multiple programs and typing swiftly, keeping pace with patient conversations. Be prepared for clinicians to occasionally interrupt the registration process for urgent care needs.
  • Providing support to patients who may be anxious or unwell. You will not merely be an information intake processor; your role involves listening attentively to alleviate patients’ concerns. Building rapport and asking follow-up questions will be essential in these interactions.
  • Working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, often on your feet while assisting patients through the registration process. While collecting patient and insurance information may seem straightforward, the variations among health plans and coverage will require knowledge gained through training. The data collection may be predictable, but the individuals from whom you gather information will not be. You will need to adapt quickly and expect the unexpected, as this is not a casual desk position.
  • Collaborating with a supportive team invested in your career progression. This position is just the initial step in your healthcare journey at R1 RCM Inc.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Excellent customer service experience

For this U.S.-based position, the base pay range is $14.69 – $20.28 per hour. Individual compensation is influenced by role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Joining our expanding team will provide you with the opportunity for ongoing learning, collaboration across diverse groups, and the exploration of new career avenues.
