Job description:
The primary responsibility of the Cybersecurity Security Operations Center (CSOC) Manager is to provide strategic leadership and oversee the operations of the CSOC, which comprises security engineers and analysts. The CSOC plays a critical role in monitoring and responding to cybersecurity events, ensuring both current and future technologies are maintained, and continuously analyzing threat data to enhance the organization’s security posture. This role demands both tactical engagement with immediate threats identified through alerts and intelligence and a strategic focus on initiatives set forth by senior leadership.

Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, technical expertise, and the ability to remain composed during incident response situations. Effective leadership and initiative execution are essential. Additionally, the CSOC Manager must anticipate future team needs by keeping abreast of developments in technological platforms and the cybersecurity landscape.

Operational Management includes overseeing team members, conducting performance evaluations, managing on-call rotations and time off, providing training and mentorship, and recruitment of staff or contracting external services as necessary. The Manager will support existing and future contractual relationships with technology and service providers, liaise with upper management to monitor team expenditures, and assist in budget preparation. During incident responses, the Manager will lead the team, ensuring timely communication, documentation, and follow-up reviews. Compliance with regulatory standards for both internal and external audits must also be maintained, alongside ensuring effective collaboration with the Cyber Threat Intelligence team and addressing root causes of security incidents with other departments.

In terms of strategy and planning, the Manager will work with employees on Individual Development Plans, interface with management and HR to align these plans with business objectives, and provide insights during Governance Board meetings. Responsibilities also include enhancing incident response capabilities, reducing false positives, and planning for technology and resource requirements.

The role further entails acquisition and deployment functions, such as understanding budgetary constraints, supervising compliance assessments for new security tools, and providing thorough evaluations of software and system security postures.

The position is hybrid, requiring three days in the office with the option to work remotely two days per week, and may involve occasional travel not exceeding 10% of work time. The candidate will frequently handle confidential and proprietary information, warranting a review of criminal history to safeguard the organization and its personnel.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience), with at least 12 years in Information Technology or Business, including a minimum of 8 years in IT and 6 years in IT security, alongside experience in cybersecurity investigations and process analysis. Preference will be given to candidates with Security Operations Center experience, supervisory or management skills, budgeting experience, relevant certifications, and proficiency in various security tools and practices.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and evaluative abilities, relatable leadership skills, and the capacity to effectively communicate and collaborate in a team-oriented environment, while maintaining a commitment to inclusion and diversity.
