Job description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Analyst (DBA) with a minimum of five years of hands-on experience to become part of our team. The successful candidate will possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, managing our SQL Server databases and associated tools. This role is essential to ensuring database performance, security, and reliability, while actively contributing to reporting and ETL processes that support the organization’s data requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze information requirements for new or modified systems and develop data file specifications.
  • Collaborate with Project Leaders, Systems Analysts, and Programmers to implement data files within the City’s Information Systems.
  • Create and assign descriptors for effective data organization, access, and control.
  • Analyze current and anticipated database usage, providing management with recommendations for structure improvements.
  • Develop file data specifications, including standard names for data elements.
  • Consult on procedures related to new or existing data file structures and assist Project Leaders accordingly.
  • Monitor and analyze database performance, preparing reports and recommendations for management to enhance efficiency.
  • Support the implementation of data files into the database.
  • Document standards for database usage, control, updating, and maintenance.
  • Interact with technical support and computer operations teams regarding database reorganization, recovery, and backup procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a closely related field from an accredited institution preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in Database Management Systems (DMS); relevant experience may be substituted for academic qualifications.
  • Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of thirty pounds.
  • A valid State of Ohio Driver’s License is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Database Management: Utilize SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) for managing SQL Server databases, including configuration and maintenance of High Availability Groups. Create, troubleshoot, and optimize T-SQL queries to enhance performance and data retrieval efficiency.

  • Reporting Development: Use Visual Studio to create and modify reports via SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), ensuring alignment with user requirements and delivering precise insights. Collaborate with stakeholders to determine reporting needs and devise tailored solutions.

  • ETL Process Development: Design, implement, and maintain ETL processes utilizing SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) through Visual Studio, ensuring efficient data flows and integrity between systems. Regularly review and optimize ETL workflows for improved performance.

  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor database performance through SSMS, identifying and rectifying bottlenecks to sustain operational efficiency. Conduct regular maintenance tasks, including backups and restorations, to uphold data integrity and availability.

  • Security and Compliance: Implement and manage database security protocols, ensuring that access controls and permissions are suitably configured. Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations and processes while ensuring compliance with industry standards.

  • Collaboration and Support: Work collaboratively with application developers and Systems Analysts to enhance database usage and resolve emerging challenges. Utilize SQL Developer for various database management tasks as needed.

  • Scripting and Automation: Write and execute PowerShell scripts to automate routine tasks, streamlining database management processes.

  • Data Transfer Management: Oversee data transfers and integrations utilizing FTP as necessary to ensure smooth operations and data consistency across platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience as a Database Analyst or in a comparable role.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and T-SQL.
  • Experience with Visual Studio for report development (SSRS) and ETL processes (SSIS).
  • Familiarity with SQL Developer for database management tasks.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell for scripting and automation.
  • Understanding of data transfer protocols, including FTP.
