Job description:
The Database Administrator III (DBA) plays a crucial role in delivering technical leadership and support throughout all stages of database architecture, implementation, and operational support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and configure new database instances as required, as well as conduct upgrades and apply patches when appropriate.
- Design, implement, and maintain database security in accordance with company policy, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Offer solutions to development teams when proposed architectures do not adhere to established architectural, performance, or security guidelines.
- Diagnose and resolve database performance issues utilizing available tools and implement corrective measures as needed.
- Collaborate with development teams to ensure a comprehensive understanding of application and database requirements, configuring database structures and parameters accordingly.
- Communicate effectively with business customers, technical teams, and management, simplifying complex technical issues and solutions for better understanding.
- Maintain a broad understanding of IT architecture, infrastructure standards, database platforms, and programming languages and tools.
- Act as the primary technical resource regarding database physical data storage, maintenance, and security.
- Exhibit a thorough understanding of data management philosophies and apply these principles to existing and future architectures.
- Create clear documentation for recurring processes and procedures.
- Adopt a proactive, forward-thinking approach to the monitoring of all databases.
- Provide accurate resource and capacity planning for database environments.
- Manage backup and disaster recovery plans for all databases.
Qualifications:
Required:
- 3-5+ years of experience in database administration within a clustered/high-availability environment.
- Proficient in SQL Server 2008 R2, 2012, or later for database administration and management.
- Proven experience managing multiple database instances concurrently.
- Demonstrated capability in administering mission-critical transactional and decision support databases.
- Familiarity with SQL Server High Availability technologies.
- Proficient in SSIS and other ETL application support.
- Experience with the setup and maintenance of SQL Server transactional and snapshot replication.
- Availability for after-hours support as required.
Preferred:
- Experience with SQL Server 2014 database administration and management.
- MCDBA certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology.
- Experience in SSAS and SSRS administration.
- Familiarity with managing Windows servers.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Enterprise Infrastructure teams.
- Experience utilizing database snapshots as a backup/restore strategy.
- Knowledge of data warehouse architectures.
- Understanding of data encryption technologies.
