AI Pay Analysis: To analyze the hourly rate for the “Dental Assistant or Registered Dental Assistant Full Time” role in Traverse City, MI, it’s important to consider current industry standards and regional variations. As of 2023, the average hourly wage for dental assistants in Michigan typically ranges from $17 to $25, depending on experience, certification, and specific job responsibilities. Traversing this range, if the offered rate is within or above this spectrum, it can be deemed competitive, particularly since Traverse City has a higher cost of living compared to other areas in Michigan. A rate that is significantly below this range would be less attractive and may hinder recruitment efforts, while rates at or above the average could attract qualified candidates and reflect well on the employer’s commitment to fair compensation.

Job description:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The role involves assisting the dentist during a wide range of dental treatment procedures, which may include exposure to saliva, blood, and various odors, while catering to clients of diverse ages, backgrounds, and socioeconomic statuses. Responsibilities include preparing the operatory for dental procedures by setting up trays, materials, and equipment; taking and developing radiographs (x-rays); preparing materials for making impressions and restorations; and recording patients’ medical histories and vital signs. The position also entails generating lab slips and maintaining lab cases. Utilizing Dentrix software, you will chart the dental conditions of patients, discuss and explain treatment plans, and schedule treatments as necessary. Strong listening and verbal communication skills are essential for effective interactions with dentists, hygienists, and patients. Critical thinking abilities will help in assessing alternative solutions to various challenges.

As a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA), you may be required to perform expanded function duties in accordance with Michigan regulations, including the application of topical treatments as permitted.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Participation in agency drills is expected, with flexibility to perform other assigned duties during public health emergencies. There is an opportunity to acquire front office skills, such as answering phones, managing Medicaid and private insurance billing, and utilizing credit card and fax machines, as well as checking patients in and out. Assisting front desk staff in determining client fees and managing payment transactions may also be required. Additional tasks may be assigned by a supervisor to support organizational and programmatic objectives.

Adverse working conditions may include frequent travel, extreme temperatures, excessive noise, challenging terrain, and/or bloodborne pathogens. The physical demands of the job include frequent activities such as seeing, sitting, talking, hearing, standing, walking, and keyboarding, as well as repeated reaching, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs or ladders, gripping, pinching, pulling, pushing, transferring, lifting, or carrying up to 25 pounds.
