Job description:
Oversees the operational and personnel activities for the State Room restaurant, bar, and special events within the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center, ensuring overall success. This role involves assisting with the interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating of both part-time and full-time team members. Additionally, the Dining Services Manager II aids in managing special events for the State Room, ensuring that team members adhere to all food service standards.
The manager will assist in developing and implementing training programs designed to uphold consistency and promote exceptional guest service. Daily communication with team members is facilitated through regular line-up meetings, aimed at sharing pertinent information and enhancing collaboration. The position requires frequent interactions with chefs, State Room managers, and the entire restaurant team to discuss business levels, operational needs, and menu offerings.
Knowledge of all applicable state and local liquor laws is essential, as is the responsibility for training staff on alcohol awareness and service standards. The manager also plays a role in the State Room beverage program and assists with monthly beverage inventory tasks.
This position is classified as critical status within SLE. In the event of a university closure or modification of operations due to inclement weather or other emergencies, the incumbent is expected to make every reasonable effort to report to work as scheduled throughout the duration of such closures or suspensions. Should an approved remote work agreement be in place, the individual may still be required to work on-site to support the MSU community.
Minimum requirements include knowledge typically acquired through the completion of a four-year college degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Hospitality Business Management, or a related field, along with one to three years of progressively responsible experience in food and beverage preparation and presentation in a restaurant or similar operation. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.
Desired qualifications encompass experience within the food and beverage operations of an upscale restaurant, proficiency in wine service, and experience in planning special events. Candidates should also have experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, LGBTQIA+, and gender backgrounds.
