Job Title: Direct Support Professional

Company: IMPACT River Bend Specialized Assisted Living

Location: East China, MI

Pay: $17.95 per hour

AI Pay Analysis: As of my last knowledge update in October 2023, the hourly rate of $17.95 for a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in East China, MI, appears to be slightly below the national average for the role, which typically ranges from $18 to $20 per hour, depending on experience and specific job duties. Factors such as cost of living in East China and local demand for DSPs can influence wage competitiveness. Given these aspects, while the rate is not unreasonably low, it may not be compelling enough to attract and retain talent, particularly in a field often challenged by high turnover rates and worker shortages. Therefore, it may be beneficial for employers to consider increasing this rate to remain competitive in attracting skilled professionals.

Job description:
The Residential Program Technician plays an essential role within the organization, reporting directly to the Residential Program Supervisor. Ideal candidates will possess at least a high school diploma or its equivalent. Strong skills in interacting with the designated population are required, including the ability to read, write, and comprehend agency, consumer, and program documentation. The technician must exercise sound judgment within their areas of responsibility, enabling them to operate independently on a daily basis. They should also be prepared to manage emergencies following established policies and procedures.

This position mandates adherence to an acceptable code of ethics, which includes maintaining consumer and employee confidentiality, engaging in effective teamwork, and ensuring courteous professional interactions with both the public and co-workers. The technician will have full access to residential clinical and demographic records and partial access to residential financial records.

Overall, the Residential Program Technician is tasked with executing duties as assigned by supervisory staff, fostering positive interactions with consumers and colleagues across all program areas. The technician is responsible for addressing the physical, safety, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of each resident, while delivering services as outlined in individual treatment plans (IPOS).

Specific responsibilities include adherence to I.M.P.A.C.T. and regulatory agency guidelines, attending mandatory staff meetings, accurately completing all required documentation, reporting any changes in consumer needs, ensuring residents’ safety, maintaining facility cleanliness, and preparing meals per prescribed menus and recipes.

The technician is also responsible for safeguarding residents’ rights, advocating for them, and aiding with daily living activities, which may encompass personal hygiene, feeding, and medication administration as prescribed. They will assist residents with community integration through planned activities, monitor individual programs, and handle challenging behaviors as necessary.

Furthermore, the technician is required to report issues to their immediate supervisor, promote a collaborative work environment, and remain sensitive to the diverse cultural backgrounds of both staff and residents. They will complete training requirements, attend relevant workshops, and keep supervisors informed of any resident or facility concerns.

Confidentiality is paramount; therefore, the technician must be vigilant regarding the handling of sensitive resident information and ensure compliance with all agency policies governing confidentiality and data protection.
