Job Objective
Under general direction, this role coordinates and supervises all aspects of daily and periodic cleaning within university complexes. Responsibilities include conducting inspections of living areas to ensure cleanliness, supervising one assistant supervisor and approximately ten custodians, determining appropriate staffing levels for work projects, and meeting with occupants to monitor and uphold cleanliness standards. This position may also involve coordinating event setups across all campuses.

Essential Functions

  • Supervising the daily activities of the assistant supervisor and custodians, ensuring work is executed correctly and orderly through daily inspections of assigned areas.
  • Preparing and submitting work schedules and biweekly payroll.
  • Evaluating the performance of custodial personnel, preparing and submitting disciplinary actions and incident reports, and providing employee counseling.
  • Designating shift and area assignments for custodians and lead personnel, interpreting contracts, conducting training for custodians, and implementing new procedures and policies.
  • Maintaining records and correspondence, preparing reports, submitting purchase requisitions for supplies, managing supply inventory and accounts, contacting vendors, and providing progress reports on building conditions.
  • Establishing and nurturing effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, co-workers, and visitors.
  • Coordinating various cleaning projects, receiving equipment, uniforms, and paper orders, and operating all cleaning equipment.
  • Overseeing event setups on all campuses and ensuring appropriate staffing.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position supervises one assistant supervisor and 8-10 custodians.

Minimum Qualifications
The following requirements represent the minimum education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed for this position:

  • Education: High school diploma required.
  • Experience:
    • Three years of progressively responsible custodial work experience, preferably in a hotel, hospital, or residence hall facility.
    • Two years of supervisory experience.
  • Skills:
    • Knowledge of cleaning methods and materials.
    • Supervisory and customer service skills.
    • Proficient written and verbal communication and interpersonal/human relations skills.
    • Training and report preparation skills.
    • Ability to conduct custodial inspections and effectively plan and organize tasks.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Travel
Minimal travel is required.

Physical and Working Conditions
Candidates must have the ability to walk throughout the campus, lift up to 60 lbs, and operate cleaning equipment such as carpet extractors and floor buffers.
