Job Title: Director of Sales – Select Service Hotel
Position Overview:
The Director of Sales – Select Service is responsible for overseeing all sales and marketing operations for a Select Service hotel. This pivotal role is dedicated to driving optimal occupancy and Average Daily Rate (ADR) growth to maximize total revenue while consistently achieving or exceeding profit objectives for the hotel. The individual will manage the hotel sales department’s operations, which include direct sales activities, sales administration, staff hiring, training, and coaching. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for the creation and management of the sales and marketing budget, forecasting, advertising, and developing business plans for a single Select Service hotel while adhering to approved plans and budgets. As an exempt associate, the Director is expected to work diligently throughout the workday to fulfill job responsibilities, with primary duties involving administrative, executive, or professional tasks and requiring the use of discretion and independent judgment for more than 50% of the workday.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate group, transient, and catering sales solicitations and bookings to optimize overall revenue.
- Develop, recommend, implement, and manage the annual budget, as well as advertising, public relations, marketing, and sales plans to enhance room rates, occupancy, and food and beverage opportunities, ensuring the hotel meets or exceeds revenue and profit goals set by management and ownership.
- Engage in proactive outside sales calls, conduct sales tours, and entertain clients.
- Acquire a thorough understanding of contract contents and negotiate favorable terms.
- Maintain market awareness to identify revenue opportunities and establish proactive sales strategies.
- Monitor the performance of top accounts and analyze market trends.
- Adhere to Aimbridge Hospitality’s established regulations, company standards, sales metrics, and goals.
- Achieve both personal and team goals, as well as budgeted metrics.
- Train hotel staff on recognizing and capitalizing on sales opportunities to boost occupancy and revenue.
- Cultivate a comprehensive working knowledge of hotel operations and policies, including Sales, Food and Beverage, Front Office, and Reservations.
- Enhance community presence and engagement with industry organizations.
- Attend and/or lead daily, weekly, and monthly meetings, providing training on a rotating basis.
- Foster strong professional relationships and open communication with marketing partners and internal departments, including Aimbridge Digital and branded field marketing.
- Travel as required, typically on a weekly basis.
- Act in place of the General Manager during their absence and perform any additional duties as requested by management.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- A minimum of 2 years of progressive hotel sales experience is preferred; alternatively, a four-year college degree with at least one year of related experience or a two-year college degree with a minimum of two years of related experience.
- A valid driver’s license in the applicable state is required.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective negotiation, persuasion, and influence with management personnel, hotel guests, and corporate clients.
- Comprehensive knowledge of professional selling skills, including opening, probing, supporting, and closing.
- Strong analytical abilities and strategic vision for effective sales deployment.
- Proficiency in general computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks concurrently.
- Outstanding organizational and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and solve complex problems to foster a productive sales team.
- In-depth knowledge of the principles and practices within the sales, marketing, and hospitality fields.
- Ability to maintain composure and objectivity in high-pressure situations.
- Familiarity with financial information, data analysis, and basic arithmetic functions.
