Job description:
A Steward is accountable for upholding the cleanliness and proper storage of all china, glassware, and silverware, while ensuring the highest standards of sanitation are met. This role also involves assisting the kitchen staff in maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and all storage areas, including the thorough cleaning of all equipment, utensils, and workspaces. Additionally, the Steward is responsible for assisting with proper food storage and rotation.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent; experience in a hotel or related field is preferred.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and effectively.
- Capacity to quickly and accurately evaluate and select among alternative courses of action.
- Strong performance in stressful, high-pressure situations.
- Ability to maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a friendly and warm demeanor at all times.
- Operate dish-washing equipment to ensure thorough cleaning and sanitation of all china, glassware, and silverware.
- Replace all clean china, glassware, and silverware in their appropriate storage locations, taking care to minimize breakage.
- Wash pots, pans, and kitchen utensils according to established procedures for cleanliness and sanitation, and store them properly.
- Sweep and mop floors in both the kitchen and restaurant areas.
- Dispose of garbage from Food and Beverage areas into the hotel dumpster.
- Maintain cleanliness in the back dock and dumpster areas.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
