Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers play a vital role in the national food supply chain. Our delivery drivers ensure that products reach customers at the designated times and in excellent condition, serving as the face of our company and fostering enduring relationships with our clientele.

The Hourly CDL-A Driver is responsible for operating a tractor trailer or straight truck on both intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop routes. This entails the safe and timely delivery and unloading of food and food-related products, adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The driver is expected to communicate and interact with customers, vendors, and colleagues in a professional manner, addressing inquiries accurately and promptly. This role requires functioning as a collaborative team member within the department and organization, undertaking any assigned duties that contribute to the company’s success.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
– Conducting all required safety checks (e.g., pre/post-trip inspections) on the tractor/truck and trailer per DOT regulations while ensuring they meet company safety standards and taking appropriate actions when necessary. Reporting safety issues and required repairs.
– Adhering to all DOT regulations and company driving guidelines and policies.
– Promptly reporting safety hazards and inspecting trailers for properly loaded and secured freight.
– Performing inventory checks and verifying customer invoices for loaded products. Completing all necessary paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly.
– Maneuvering the tractor to the loading dock and attaching preloaded trailers as required.
– Following predetermined delivery routes to transport customer orders, unloading products from the trailer, and placing items in designated customer storage areas.
– Conducting damage control checks on items, scanning, and notifying supervisors about order removals as per company policy. Verifying deliveries with customers and obtaining appropriate signatures, and collecting payments where required.
– Loading customer returns back onto the trailer and securing trailer doors, ensuring that the tractor, trailer, and freight are always secured.
– Unloading damaged goods and customer returns, completing the necessary paperwork, and clearing out trailers.
– Maintaining daily records of hours of service and logging them according to Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
– Conducting general housekeeping duties in the tractor, on the loading dock, and ensuring trailers remain clear and clean. At the end of each shift, securing all equipment and completing required paperwork.
– Performing other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
– High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
– A minimum of 6 months of commercial driving experience.
– Valid CDL-A license.
– Must be at least 21 years of age.
– Compliance with all state licensing and certification requirements (where applicable).
– Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
– Passing of post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
– Successful completion of a road test.
– Possession of a valid current DOT Health Card or ability to secure a new one.
– Ability to hand-lift and utilize equipment such as two-wheelers, lift gates, and other tools to move and stack product cases/freight of varying sizes and weights, generally ranging from 10-35 pounds and up to approximately 60 to 90 pounds, depending on the location.

Preferred Qualifications:
– High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
– At least 1 year of commercial driving experience.
– Minimum of 1 year of experience in the foodservice distribution industry.
– Familiarity with onboard computer and electronic logging systems (e.g., PeopleNet).
– Experience with hand-held point of delivery scanning systems (e.g., POD).
– Customer service-related work experience.
