Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers play a vital role in the nation’s food supply chain. In addition to ensuring the timely and safe delivery of customer products, our drivers represent our company and cultivate lasting relationships with our clients.

The Driver Trainee position serves as an entry-level role focused on driver training. Associates in this role will acquire hands-on experience in freight transportation and tractor-trailer operation by assisting designated driver trainers with their deliveries and routes. This position requires professional communication and interaction with customers, vendors, and co-workers, ensuring inquiries are addressed accurately and promptly. Teamwork is essential, as you will collaborate within your department and the larger organization to fulfill various assignments that serve the company’s needs.

Key Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
– Successfully complete the Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program as required.
– Accompany and support the driver trainer in executing delivery routes.
– Conduct all necessary safety checks, including pre- and post-trip inspections of the tractor and trailer in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and ensure adherence to company safety standards.
– Promptly report any safety issues or required repairs.
– Adhere to all DOT regulations and company safe driving policies.
– Immediately report safety hazards.
– Inspect trailers for securely loaded freight and conduct inventory checks against customer invoices.
– Accurately complete all required documentation associated with freight.
– Maneuver the tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailers as needed.
– Adhere to a predetermined delivery schedule to transport and deliver customer orders. Unload products and transport them to designated storage areas at customer locations.
– Conduct damage control checks on items, scan deliveries, and inform the supervisor regarding the removal of orders per company policy. Confirm delivery with the customer and obtain necessary signatures.
– Collect payments (cash or checks) when required. Safely load customer returns onto the trailer and secure the trailer doors. Handle any damaged goods and returns following check-in procedures, completing all necessary paperwork.
– Unload all equipment and materials from trailers and remove trash as necessary.
– Maintain a daily record of hours worked in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company regulations.
– Uphold cleanliness and organization in the tractor, loading dock area, and trailers as needed.
– Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
– High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
– Internal candidates must have one year of service in good standing as outlined in the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, and must be able to obtain a CDL Permit and DOT Health Card.
– External candidates with no prior experience must possess a valid CDL Permit.
– High school diploma/GED or state-approved equivalent.
– Valid CDL Permit.
– Compliance with all state licensing and certification requirements, where applicable.
– Minimum age of 21 years.
– Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
– Successful completion of a post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
– Pass a road test.
– Valid current DOT Health Card or the ability to secure a new DOT Health Card.
– Capable of hand-lifting and utilizing a two-wheeler, lift gate, and other equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of varying sizes and weights throughout the shift; items generally weigh between 10-35 pounds, with some reaching 60-90 pounds depending on the job location.
