Description: Primarily seeking candidates for the evening shift, 3:30 PM – Midnight

Summary:
The Environmental Aide is essential in maintaining a safe and hygienic environment within the Health System. This role encompasses a variety of cleaning tasks to adhere to Regulatory Agency Standards, Infection Control mandates, and Hospital and Department Policies. The Environmental Aide is responsible for completing mandatory computer-based training programs and demonstrating the competencies required for the position.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

  • Education: A High School diploma or GED is preferred. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required, along with basic math skills.
  • Experience: A minimum of three months of customer service or cleaning experience is preferred.
  • Certification/Licensure: None required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Environmental Aide performs a range of general cleaning tasks to uphold cleanliness in areas such as patient towers, public spaces, exam rooms, and offices. Key responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces
  • Spot cleaning carpets and upholstery
  • Addressing spills promptly
  • Changing linens and making beds
  • Operating vacuum cleaning equipment
  • Disposing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste
  • Reporting maintenance needs and unsafe conditions
  • Maintaining a positive demeanor that fosters a culture of trust, respect, and teamwork
  • Adhering to the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision, and Values of SJMH
  • Committing to safe work practices to ensure personal and coworker safety, and promptly reporting any preventable hazards or unsafe practices to management

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to:

  • Follow written and verbal instructions
  • Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and coworkers
  • Maintain concentration and attention to detail
  • Prioritize tasks and organize workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Stand and walk for approximately 90% of the workday
  • Frequently squat, kneel, and lift; occasional bending and twisting may be required
  • Lift up to 40 lbs. without assistance
  • Lift, turn, push, pull, and position equipment safely
  • Utilize safe body mechanics
