The EHS Manager is responsible for ensuring that all employees conduct their duties in a safe and healthy environment. This role includes evaluating potential risks, performing behavioral audits, and initiating safety policies in collaboration with the plant leadership team, frontline leaders, and Corporate EHSS, consistently aligning with OSHA and MIOSHA safety regulations. Additionally, the EHS Manager will oversee and engage in accident investigations to determine root causes and necessary corrective actions while fostering a culture of collaboration and active participation in EHS among all employees.

Working closely with the Regional EHSS Manager, the EHS Manager will be charged with the planning, implementation, and enforcement of the organization’s Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) policies and procedures. This position is based on-site in South Haven, Michigan.

Responsibilities:
– Oversee Process Safety programs within a processing facility, ensuring compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals, as implemented by MIOSHA Part 91, and EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) 40 CFR Part 68 Chemical Accident Prevention Provisions.
– Manage the site’s Process Safety Advisor along with other safety professionals, and ensure compliance activities related to Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), embracing industry best practices and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) studies.
– Support administrative functions pertaining to site security, including the implementation of necessary policies and procedures.
– Administer health and industrial hygiene programs, encompassing health screenings, hearing examinations, and Industrial Hygiene monitoring.
– Participate in compliance audits, emergency planning and response activities, and employee training.
– Prepare and submit accurate EHS compliance reports in a timely manner.
– Administer safety training programs, guiding continuous improvement to fulfill safety, environmental, and operational training requirements, and meet site goals.
– Manage EHS tracking systems, identifying areas for improvement, supporting other EHSS programs as needed, tracking corrective actions, and collaborating with supervision for timely resolution, including oversight of management of change (MOC).
– Ensure the mechanical integrity of the fire safety system and other plant safety-related infrastructure.

Required Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
– A minimum of 10 years of experience in the chemical industry.
– Proven supervisory and leadership experience.
– Familiarity with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 and EPA 40 CFR Part 68, as well as hazardous waste and wastewater regulations.
– Willingness to be available for on-call and after-hours work as required.

Physical Requirements and Environment:
Candidates must adhere to safety protocols while working in a pilot plant facility that involves handling highly hazardous materials. The role requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and ascend stairs and ladders exceeding 100 feet. Additionally, willingness to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suits, and full-face respirators is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:
– Over 10 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety Services (EHSS).
– Previous experience in chemical manufacturing plants, particularly in relation to the Clean Air Act, OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM), and EPA Risk Management.
