The EHS Manager is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for all employees. This includes assessing potential risks, conducting behavioral audits, and implementing safety policies in coordination with the plant leadership team, frontline leaders, and Corporate EHSS while adhering to OSHA and MIOSHA safety regulations. The EHS Manager will also oversee and participate in accident investigations to identify root causes and establish corrective actions, fostering an environment of collaboration and active involvement in EHS practices among all employees.

In partnership with the Regional EHSS Manager, the EHS Manager will play a pivotal role in planning, implementing, and enforcing the organization’s Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) policies and procedures. The position is situated on-site in South Haven, Michigan.

Responsibilities:
– Oversee Process Safety programs in compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 (Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals) as implemented by MIOSHA Part 91 and the EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) 40 CFR Part 68 (Chemical Accident Prevention Provisions).
– Manage the site’s Process Safety Advisor and other safety professionals, ensuring compliance with Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and incorporating industry best practices, including Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) studies.
– Support administrative tasks related to site security and the implementation of necessary policies and procedures.
– Administer health and industrial hygiene programs, including health screenings, hearing examinations, and industrial hygiene monitoring.
– Participate in compliance audits, emergency planning and response activities, and employee training initiatives.
– Prepare and submit timely and accurate EHS compliance reports.
– Facilitate safety training programs, providing direction for continuous improvements to meet safety, environmental, and operational training requirements and site objectives.
– Manage EHS tracking systems, identify areas for improvement, and ensure timely closure of corrective actions in conjunction with supervision, including oversight of management of change (MOC) processes.
– Ensure the mechanical integrity of the fire safety systems and other safety-related infrastructure within the facility.

Required Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
– A minimum of 10 years of experience in the chemical industry.
– Proven supervisory and leadership experience.
– Familiarity with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 and EPA 40 CFR Part 68, as well as hazardous waste and wastewater regulations.
– Availability for on-call and after-hours work as required.

Physical Requirements and Environment:
– Ability to adhere to safety protocols and standards while working in a pilot plant environment that involves highly hazardous materials.
– Must be capable of standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and ascending stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
– Willingness to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hats, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suits, and full face respirators.

Preferred Qualifications:
– Over 10 years of EHSS experience.
– Experience in chemical manufacturing plants, with knowledge of compliance related to the Clean Air Act, OSHA Process Safety Management, and EPA Risk Management.
