Title: EVS Associate – Mid Shift – 64hr/pp – Kalamazoo

Under the direction of the Environmental Services Manager, the Environmental Service Associate is responsible for upholding environmental and infection control standards in accordance with established policies and procedures within the healthcare facility. Responsibilities include cleaning patient rooms (both occupied and unoccupied), public areas, surgical areas, and other designated spaces; restocking supplies; and maintaining cleaning equipment. The role emphasizes providing excellent service to both internal and external customers while adhering to regulatory requirements. Work assignments will be provided along with ongoing audits to ensure compliance with quality standards. Individuals in direct patient care roles must demonstrate knowledge and competencies pertinent to the populations served.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is no longer a requirement for this position, effective April 19, 2021.
  • A valid Michigan driver’s license and insurability may be required for certain roles.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English (at or above the 8th-grade level) with departmental staff and customers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that reflect Bronson’s professionalism and positivity.

The position requires managing work tasks that may result in levels of mental and visual fatigue typical of a role with varied responsibilities and tight deadlines. It may involve operating a personal computer or CRT for up to 40% of the time, regular lifting of bulky or moderately heavy items (up to 50 pounds), and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks.

Physical demands include:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out daily cleaning and maintenance tasks in patient rooms, operating rooms, and ancillary areas, adhering to the ten-step cleaning protocol outlined in the Environmental Services Department Manual.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations from CDC, OSHA, EPA, and Joint Commission.
  • Follow isolation procedures in designated areas.
  • Perform detailed cleaning of vents, fixtures, windows, furniture, and other essential areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness in public areas such as lobbies, waiting rooms, restrooms, offices, and stairwells.
  • Collect and replace sharp containers and document cleaning tasks.
  • Restock supplies as needed and effectively communicate with nursing staff regarding patient care.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Remove trash and soiled linen, keeping work areas organized and assisting with additional tasks as assigned.
  • Occasionally operate mechanical floor care equipment.
  • Ensure areas are clean and equipment is stored properly.
  • Direct visitors when necessary and coordinate cleaning activities with department coordinators.
  • Actively participate in professional development and regular staff meetings.
  • Engage with the Bronson Management System, attending huddles and employing problem-solving methods.
  • Operate ultraviolet (UV) disinfection equipment where specified.

Specific duties applicable to BMH Lab, BSH, BLH & BLIRC include:

  • Collecting, labeling, and organizing all biomedical waste.
  • Transporting recycling to the designated compactor.
  • Maintaining cleanliness across various areas, ensuring proper use of cleaning machinery.
