Job Responsibilities

As a Facilities Controls Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, implementing, and standardizing building controls by utilizing your skills, as well as those of your team and contractors.
  • Directing site building control activities alongside team members and contractors to fulfill site requirements, including controls upgrades, programming optimization, standardization, and enhancements to operations.
  • Ensuring consistent controls architecture across various sites while analyzing technology trends.
  • Acting as a Project Engineer, capable of developing and communicating operational plans, monitoring progress, resolving operational challenges, minimizing delays, and identifying and acquiring essential resources for project completion.
  • Designing systems, developing schedules and budgets, selecting materials, equipment, and staff, as well as overseeing contractors.
  • Managing Building Management Systems (BMS) specifications, design, and operations, and developing a multi-year strategy for BMS migration.
  • Collaborating with HDMA Facilities controls leaders to establish standardized approaches.
  • Overseeing programming and coordinating with the IT networking team to optimize network performance and manage server applications.
  • Working closely with site representatives to ensure consistency and optimal system performance.
  • Presenting updates and core system functionalities to leadership while managing routine system maintenance.
  • Preparing annual planning requirement documentation and creating necessary planning documents for budgeting and approval processes.
  • Developing roles and responsibilities documentation for efficient reference and change management.
  • Supporting Facilities Operations with mechanical, electrical, and controls design and specification.
  • Employing analytical and troubleshooting skills to reduce the mean time to recovery.
  • Supporting the operation of various mechanical systems, including centrifugal fans, burners, cooling/heating coils, pumps, centrifugal air compressors, chillers, heat exchangers, utilities, and metering systems.
  • Maintaining documentation for site control systems and communicating critical updates to site system operators.
  • Training Facilities Associates in operational enhancements related to controls and mechanical/electrical systems, ensuring reference materials are accessible.
  • Creating scope documents based on departmental project requirements.
  • Managing and/or supporting the bidding, evaluation, and selection process for contractors involved in Facilities and department-led projects.
  • Establishing project budgets and ensuring accuracy, while supervising engineers and on-site contractors.
  • Determining and prioritizing project tasks, and developing comprehensive schedules and timelines to achieve project goals on time and within budget.

Job Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 to 6 years of experience in Controls, Project Management, or Facilities roles, with a preference for experience in control systems architecture and programming.
  • Familiarity with industrial mechanical systems, from conceptual design to implementation and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in effective communication and presentation skills, customer relationship building, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas effectively to achieve consensus, exhibit technical expertise, balance multiple projects simultaneously, interpret technical drawings and specifications, and collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
  • Capability to balance customer department requirements with facility equipment service team needs, supported by a solid foundation of technical knowledge relevant to daily operations. Understanding of Honda project flow, budgeting, and cost reporting, along with project tracking and reporting for PDCA and Nariyuki development.
  • Work Environment: Suitable for both office and industrial settings.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required to fulfill tasks and meet deadlines, including weekends and shutdowns for project management and production coverage.
