Job description:

The role encompasses supervisory responsibilities focused on the management and oversight of recreational and aquatic facilities, as well as year-round aquatics programs. Key responsibilities include supervising facility operations, managing personnel, planning, coordinating, and executing programs, preparing budgets and reports, and contributing to the overall operation of the Parks and Recreation Department’s facilities.

Supervision is conducted under the general guidance of the Special Projects Administrator, Aquatic Manager, and/or Recreation Facilities Manager. Performance will be evaluated through regular meetings, report reviews, and adherence to policies and procedures. The role may involve supervising employees assigned to recreational and/or aquatic facilities.

Essential functions of the position may include, but are not limited to:

– Coordinating, assigning, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating the work of part-time staff at assigned facilities; recommending disciplinary measures when necessary; assisting in the recruitment and selection of new staff members.
– Aiding in the preparation and monitoring of the annual program budget; soliciting quotes; preparing purchase requisitions and managing orders and shipments.
– Maintaining work schedules to ensure safe supervision of all public areas within recreational facilities.
– Keeping accurate accident/incident reports and maintenance records; overseeing safety documentation, including MSDS files and right-to-know information.
– Addressing patron inquiries, requests, concerns, and complaints; resolving issues or referring them as appropriate; explaining and enforcing security policies.
– Performing duties related to Community Center Manager-On-Duty, overseeing front desk operations and monetary handling procedures; ensuring patron safety; setting up and dismantling rooms; supervising part-time staff and coordinating with facility staff.
– Ensuring compliance with departmental standards, City codes, OSHA, and ADA guidelines while maintaining accurate records of incidents, injuries, and accidents.
– Scheduling and supervising recreation facility staff in the supervisor’s absence.
– Assisting in maintaining standards to meet national agency accreditation requirements.
– Collaborating in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term goals for the Department.
– Assisting in the conducting of first aid, CPR, lifeguard, water safety, and rescue instructional sessions.
– Monitoring and managing proper chemical water balance; overseeing chlorination and water filtration systems; coordinating daily cleaning tasks at aquatic facilities; opening and closing the facilities.

The work environment includes a mix of indoor and outdoor settings, particularly in and around swimming pools. The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, climbing, and carrying heavy objects, as well as a range of physical activities. Employees may occasionally work in control areas alongside operational electrical or mechanical equipment, adhering to safety protocols, and may be exposed to varying weather conditions, chlorine, other chemicals, fumes, and bodily fluids.

Minimum Qualifications:

– A Bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, sports management, adult learning, or a related field, along with 2-3 years of progressively responsible experience in aquatic or facility management, or recreation programming. Alternatively, a combination of training and experience that equips the candidate with the requisite knowledge, abilities, and skills.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Required:
