We are currently seeking a dedicated Field Service Engineer to join our Electrification Automation (EA) Business Unit, focusing on warranty management, quality assurance, and customer support for large data center installations in the Columbus, OH area. This position is designed for proactive engineers who thrive in hands-on technical roles, ensuring seamless installations while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
In this impactful role, you will:
- Conduct pre-installation site assessments to verify optimal storage conditions and environmental readiness ahead of equipment delivery. Proactively identify and communicate potential risks to prevent costly rework and project delays.
- Lead the management and resolution of punch list items for large-scale data center projects, ensuring timely and within-scope completion.
- Supervise warranty issues resolution by collaborating with internal teams and external customers to provide efficient solutions and uphold customer satisfaction.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues involving low and medium-voltage power distribution systems, including control circuits and related components.
- Assist in the installation, testing, commissioning, and startup of LV and MV equipment for data center projects to ensure proper system integration and functionality.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customer inquiries regarding punch lists, warranties, and technical matters, fostering strong relationships through professional and timely support.
- Offer valuable insights to project and quality program managers, based on field experience, to enhance processes and product reliability. Participate in internal reviews to disseminate lessons learned and improve long-term outcomes.
- Primarily support locations in the Columbus, OH area, with necessary travel across the United States (up to 80%). Be available for emergency assignments and rapid response scenarios.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of warranty claims, technical challenges, and punch list resolutions, providing detailed reports on issue status and corrective actions.
You will impress us with the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in power distribution systems (low and medium voltage, 480V-38kV).
- Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting and maintaining electrical systems, including low and medium voltage switchgear, breakers, and control circuits.
- Strong knowledge of power distribution systems, encompassing testing, commissioning, and startup procedures.
- Ability to work independently in a hands-on, field-based environment, addressing complex technical challenges.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting purposes.
- Availability for emergency and relief assignments, with an expectation of up to 80% travel for national site visits.
- This position requires residency within the Columbus, OH area to effectively support the geographic needs of EA’s business partners.
- A valid driver’s license in good standing and a minimum age of 21 to participate in the mandatory Siemens vehicle plan.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in customer service or warranty support roles specifically within the industrial or data center sectors.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- 3-5 years of field service experience, ideally in data center or power distribution settings.
- Familiarity with protection and control relays, SF6 gas circuit breakers, and project management software.
- OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, MSHA 46/48 certifications or similar credentials.
- Additional certifications (NETA, NICET) or possession of a TWIC card is advantageous.
