The Care Promoter 1 is an unlicensed medical professional who is cross-trained to perform a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our medical centers. The specific responsibilities of the Care Promoter 1 may vary based on the setting, size, location, and type of facility. In addition to administrative functions, Care Promoters are responsible for clinical tasks performed under the direct supervision of physicians, in accordance with state medical practice regulations. The Care Promoter 1 plays a vital role as part of a Physician-led Care Team that is dedicated to delivering exceptional and comprehensive primary care to a designated patient population.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Measure and record patient vital signs and document patient interviews and medical histories.
- Assess and communicate patient needs to the Primary Care Provider (PCP), Clinician, Specialist, and/or other clinical team members.
- Prepare patients for examinations, conduct routine screening tests, assist physicians during exams, and explain treatment procedures and physicians’ instructions to patients.
- Observe patients and report any changes in patient conditions to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist, and/or other clinical personnel.
- Perform non-critical medical and therapeutic procedures following medical instructions, including collecting phlebotomy and lab specimens and conducting basic waived lab tests.
- Prepare and administer medications; change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, and perform other first aid procedures, all under physician supervision; utilize CPR skills as necessary.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, sterilize instruments, adhere to OSHA safety standards, and ensure accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
- Manage patient phone messages, returning calls and routing them appropriately; contact patients to obtain and relay relevant information for the physician.
- Upon physician authorization, call in prescriptions to the pharmacy, employing appropriate medical terminology and maintaining legal and ethical professional conduct; authorized personnel will utilize the ChenMed Rx system to support physician medication dispensing.
- Provide health coaching to a defined group of patients to promote healthy lifestyle choices, following up with coached patients through weekly calls.
- Perform additional duties as assigned at the discretion of management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, demonstrating compassion and empathy towards our patients and their families.
- Exceptional oral and written communication abilities, along with strong time management and organizational skills.
- Capability to collaborate effectively with team members, including physicians, clinicians, market leaders, center managers, nurses, case managers, and front desk staff.
- A proactive mindset focused on resolving patient issues and achieving team objectives.
- Familiarity with medical products, terminology, services, standards, policies, and procedures.
- Proficient in basic phone and computer operations.
- Detail-oriented approach to ensure accuracy in reports and documentation.
- Ability to maintain effective systems for timely patient flow.
- Capability to remain calm and composed in busy or stressful environments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel, alongside various word-processing, spreadsheet, database, email, and presentation software.
- Willingness and ability to travel locally and/or regionally up to 10% of the time to assist with coverage at other centers as needed.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
Education and Experience Criteria:
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
- Completion of a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program or comparable healthcare vocational training (e.g., foreign-trained physician, paramedic) is mandatory.
- A minimum of one year of experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, or a similar role in a hospital or medical clinic, or documented clinical rotation training equivalent to work experience is necessary.
- Experience working with geriatric patients is advantageous.
- Familiarity with EMR systems is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross is required within the first 90 days of employment.
