The Food Services Supervisor 9 position is responsible for overseeing the food services operations at the Michigan Youth Training Center (MYTC). This role involves supervising kitchen activities and managing all kitchen personnel. The supervisor will actively participate in the recruitment and training of new kitchen staff, as well as being accountable for performance evaluations and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
Key responsibilities include assisting in meal preparation for both youth and staff, planning and preparing specialized diets when required, and managing the food ordering process to ensure compliance with budgetary constraints. The supervisor must adhere to best practices and ensure that all operations meet the cleanliness standards set by the Department of Health. This position also includes routine involvement in meal preparation for a moderate number of individuals.

Required Education and Experience
Education:
Typically, a high school diploma is required.
Experience:
For the Food Services Supervisor 9 position, candidates should possess four years of experience in quantity cooking and food preparation tasks equivalent to a Cook. This experience should include three years equivalent to a Cook E6 or two years equivalent to a Cook 7.

Preferred Experience:
Candidates are preferred to have substantial experience in institutional management within secure and juvenile treatment facilities.
Alternate Education and Experience:
Possession of an associate’s degree in dietetics, food services management, hotel/restaurant/institution management, culinary arts, or human nutrition, combined with two years of experience in managing quantity cooking and food preparation (including one year equivalent to a Cook E6) may be accepted to fulfill the experience requirement. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in the mentioned fields may also substitute the experience requirement.
This position is located at the Michigan Youth Training Center (MYTC), situated at 400 N. Rose Street, Mt. Clemens, MI. Employees will be provided with computers to perform state work, and phones may also be supplied for necessary communications. In the case of remote work, employees are responsible for providing a conducive work environment, including:
– A secure workspace that allows privacy and minimizes distractions.
– A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
– Appropriate lighting, furniture, and utilities.
