Job description:

The School Custodian is responsible for performing a range of general cleaning duties across designated areas within a K-12 school or campus environment. This role is ideal for individuals entering the workforce or re-entering after a hiatus, particularly those with limited experience or education.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • No prior experience is required, as on-the-job training will be provided.
  • A high school diploma, GED, or college degree is not necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior customer service experience.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of relevant work experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain cleanliness in assigned areas, which may include classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, and stairways.
  • Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, and mop floors in designated regions.
  • Regularly check and empty trash receptacles as needed in all assigned areas.
  • Adhere to proper procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to avoid damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Notify the lead cleaner or manager of any required minor or major repairs or modifications to building operating systems.
  • Foster effective communication and working relationships with clients, colleagues, shift coordinators, supervisors, and managers.
  • Collect, consolidate, and separate recyclables into the appropriate receptacles.
  • Dust and clean desks, chairs, tables, furniture, fixtures, doors, sills, floors, ceilings, and walls.
  • Polish hard surfaces, such as woodwork and stainless steel.
  • Clean tabletops, chairs, and equipment in food service areas.
  • Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates, and equipment to facilitate cleaning, either manually or with hand trucks.
  • Clean interior partition glass, windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using appropriate cleaning solutions, sponges, and squeegees.
  • Perform seasonal tasks such as sweeping walkways, raking leaves, cutting grass, and removing snow.
  • Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of restrooms by cleaning and polishing as necessary.
  • Comply with all safety, security, compliance, and quality standards and procedures set forth by the Company, Clients, and regulatory authorities.
