Job description:

Nestled within over 1,400 acres in the picturesque Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan International Speedway boasts a rich history in racing. Having captivated NASCAR enthusiasts and drivers for more than 50 years, it offers not only thrilling races but also hosts a variety of annual events, including the MIS Backyard Hockey Tournament, Faster Horses Festival, and Nite Lites. The speedway features more than 12 campgrounds, making it the largest registered campground in the state of Michigan.

NASCAR is seeking a dedicated professional for the role of General Maintenance at the track.

Summary

This position entails performing routine preventative maintenance, repairs, and track service duties, while operating an array of equipment. The successful candidate will possess a foundational knowledge of office systems, including computer software and cellular technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct preventive maintenance tasks, including basic electrical, plumbing, and HVAC repairs pertinent to building upkeep.
  • Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication as required.
  • Test repaired equipment to confirm operational efficiency.
  • Requisition parts and equipment with Supervisor approval.
  • Maintain accurate records and generate reports.
  • Ensure a clean and safe facility through general housekeeping.
  • Operate equipment as necessary.
  • Responsible for track preparation, maintenance, and restoration.
  • Execute track cleaning tasks, which may include sweeping, blowing, applying and retrieving absorbent materials, and washing/scrubbing fluids from the track surface.
  • Reconfigure the track layout among oval, full road course, modified road course, short road course, and drag strip as needed.
  • Conduct general maintenance throughout the facility, including painting.
  • Operate and maintain various types of equipment such as vehicles, lifts, and other heavy machinery.
  • Install and store signage at various locations across the property.
  • Assist with fleet management and inventory.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Work hours may vary and will encompass all operational hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required for events and job responsibilities. Flexibility with hours typical of the sports and entertainment industry is essential.
  • High school diploma or equivalent general education degree (GED); or two to four years of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand and walk, utilize hands for grasping and reaching, and must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds regularly. Visual acuity is needed for close and distance tasks, peripheral visibility, and depth perception.
  • Frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and must be able to hear and communicate effectively. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Occasionally required to sit and utilize the senses of taste or smell. Must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • While performing job duties, the employee will be regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, vibration, and moving mechanical parts. Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles will occur; occasional work at heights and in proximity to toxic or caustic chemicals may be necessary as well as exposure to electric shock risks. The typical noise level in the work environment is usually loud, but may occasionally reach very loud levels.
