Job description:

The Healthcare Data Analyst at Health Alliance Plan (HAP) plays a pivotal role in delivering comprehensive quantitative and qualitative analysis to inform strategic decision-making across the organization, particularly in relation to medical cost-saving initiatives. This position requires proficiency in working with diverse data sources, both internal and external, encompassing a range of formats, including structured and unstructured data. The incumbent will effectively communicate insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a compelling and accessible manner. This role involves solving analytical challenges and crafting innovative solutions for business problems. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in data extraction, transformation, and analysis utilizing a variety of analytical tools and statistical methodologies. A strong commitment to continuous learning and adapting to the evolving data and business landscape is essential.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Employ relevant data analytics techniques to derive actionable insights from data.
  • Conduct analyses focused on medical cost-saving initiatives, key performance indicators, provider contract effectiveness, and adherence to quality standards.
  • Perform cost-benefit analysis for key organizational programs and initiatives that affect medical costs and performance metrics.
  • Interpret and convey insights and findings derived from analyses and experiments to a multi-departmental audience.
  • Develop and deliver concise, engaging presentations that elucidate key findings, outline analytical methodologies utilized, propose future analyses and implications, and identify opportunities for business enhancements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in data science and analytics tools, techniques, and practices.
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively, multitask, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Education/Experience Required:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Public Health, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in analytical roles within healthcare or managed care/insurance environments, emphasizing quantitative data analysis.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in problem-solving utilizing data analytics tools such as R, SAS, or Python.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency with experience in relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools or experience collaborating with Data Visualization Designers using Power BI or Tableau, including the capability to create visualizations for analytical models using Rshiny, GGPlot, Qlik, Alteryx, Flask, D3, etc., to effectively communicate data insights to business users.
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a strong capacity for storytelling through data.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic, with a passion for learning and contributing to organizational development.
  • A collaborative team player with an inclination for effective communication across diverse teams.
