This position is a part-time opportunity available to support patients in the Okemos area, with a requirement for weekday availability.
As a Hospice Aide/Certified Nursing Assistant, you will:
- Report directly to the Administrator, Executive Director, or Senior Patient Care Manager, functioning under the guidance and supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Clinical Supervisor.
- Assist patients in maintaining optimal personal hygiene and comfort.
- Help create and maintain a safe and healthy living environment.
- Prepare and serve light meals while offering feeding assistance when necessary.
- Support patients in ambulating and expertly assist with the safe use of mobility aids such as walkers or wheelchairs, per nursing instruction.
- Conduct light housekeeping tasks, including trash disposal and linen changes.
- Participate in specific treatments as designated in the aide plan of care, adhering to state regulations.
- Engage patients in activities that promote mental alertness and well-being.
- Provide basic emotional and psychological support to both patients and their families.
- Report any changes in the patient’s condition or home situation to the Registered Nurse and interdisciplinary team members.
- Demonstrate essential care techniques to primary caregivers.
- Implement infection control protocols and standard precautions.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of visit itineraries.
- Attend required staff meetings and engage in at least one Quality Improvement activity annually, as assigned.
- Ensure completion of documentation as per orientation guidelines.
Qualifications for Hospice Aide/CNA:
- A compassionate disposition, demonstrating empathy towards patients and their families.
- Comfort in delivering care in a variety of home settings.
- Ability to maintain composure while providing support during challenging situations.
- A valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
- At least six months of experience in patient care settings, with preference given to backgrounds in hospice, home health, ICU, geriatrics, or oncology.
- Additional experience in nursing roles such as Staff RN, Med Surg, PACU, Float Pool, Emergency Room, or critical care is highly valued.
- A current driver’s license and automobile insurance.
- Current CPR certification.
