Job Summary
The Environmental Services Assistant plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the Environmental Services Department. This position is responsible for fulfilling tasks in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, as well as the guidelines and regulations governing our facility. Under the direction of the Executive Director and/or the Environmental Services Supervisor, the Assistant ensures that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Adhere to established work and cleaning schedules to the best of your ability.
  • Promptly report all accidents and incidents to your supervisor, regardless of their severity, within 24 hours of occurrence.
  • Participate in mandatory in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs as scheduled or directed.
  • Attend annual OSHA and CDC training sessions focusing on hazard communication, tuberculosis management, and bloodborne pathogens standards.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of environmental services materials in utility and janitorial closets to facilitate daily tasks.
  • Notify your supervisor of any burned-out light bulbs, exit lights, overhead lights, room call lights, and other necessary repairs as soon as possible.
  • Provide assistance in lifting heavy equipment and supplies when directed or requested.
  • Clean work and supply carts and equipment as necessary, ensuring that all equipment is properly cleaned and stored at the end of each shift.
  • Execute daily environmental services functions as assigned, adhering to specific tasks outlined in daily work assignments.
  • Regularly empty and sanitize ashtrays.
  • Clean and polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, and room heating/cooling units in resident rooms and recreational areas as instructed.
  • Sanitize bathroom fixtures and ensure the removal of water marks.
  • Clean windows and mirrors in resident rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and entrance/exit areas.
  • Perform floor cleaning activities, including sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, and disinfecting. (NOTE: Proper caution/safety signs must be displayed prior to engaging in these tasks.)
  • Clean carpets by vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting. Maintain cleanliness of walls and ceilings through washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, and disinfecting.
  • Remove dirt, dust, grease, and film from surfaces using suitable cleaning and disinfecting solutions.
  • Maintain cleanliness in hallways and stairways.
  • Dispose of waste and trash into designated containers, ensuring the re-lining of trash receptacles with plastic liners, and discard infectious waste accordingly.
  • Clean vacant rooms as assigned.
  • Implement isolation cleaning procedures following established infection control protocols.
  • Please note that the Environmental Services Assistant is not permitted to assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) or skilled care needs.
  • Ensure that work areas are kept tidy and that all equipment, tools, and supplies are appropriately stored before taking breaks, mealtimes, and concluding the workday.

Qualifications
Education: High School diploma or GED required.

Physical Requirements
The role requires frequent sitting, standing, bending, reaching, stretching, stooping, walking, and intermittent movement throughout working hours. Candidates must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs. Additionally, effective verbal and written communication with co-workers, supervisors, residents, family members, visitors, vendors, and other business associates is essential.
