Job Summary
The Environmental Services Assistant plays a crucial role in executing the daily operations of the Environmental Services Department. This position is in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility, and as directed by the Executive Director and/or the Environmental Services Supervisor. The goal is to ensure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and welcoming manner.

Roles and Responsibilities
– Adhere to established work and cleaning schedules to the best of your ability.
– Promptly report all accidents and incidents, regardless of severity, to your supervisor within 24 hours.
– Attend and engage in scheduled in-service educational courses, on-the-job training programs, and other training as directed.
– Participate in annual OSHA and CDC in-service training regarding hazard communication, TB management, and bloodborne pathogens.
– Maintain an adequate supply of environmental services materials in utility and janitorial closets.
– Report any burned-out light bulbs or malfunctioning lights to your supervisor as soon as feasible.
– Assist colleagues with lifting heavy equipment and supplies as requested.
– Clean and sanitize work and supply carts, equipment, and ensure proper storage of materials at the end of each shift.
– Execute daily environmental services tasks as assigned, following specific instructions in accordance with work assignments.
– Sanitize ashtrays on a daily basis.
– Clean and polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, and room heating/cooling units in resident rooms and recreational areas as instructed.
– Clean, wash, sanitize, and polish bathroom fixtures, ensuring removal of water marks.
– Clean windows and mirrors in resident rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and entryways.
– Maintain floors through sweeping, dusting, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, and disinfecting, while using caution/safety signs as appropriate.
– Vacuum, shampoo, deodorize, and disinfect carpets while cleaning walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, and spot cleaning.
– Employ proper cleaning and disinfecting solutions to remove dirt, dust, grease, and film from surfaces.
– Ensure cleanliness of hallways and stairways.
– Dispose of waste in designated containers, reline trash receptacles, and handle infectious waste appropriately.
– Clean vacant rooms as assigned.
– Follow established infection control procedures for isolation cleaning when necessary.
– Note that the Environmental Services Assistant is not permitted to assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) or skilled needs.
– Always keep work areas tidy and ensure that equipment, tools, supplies, and materials are stored appropriately before breaks, meals, and the conclusion of the workday.

Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED.

Physical Requirements
The role requires frequent sitting, standing, bending, reaching, stretching, stooping, walking, and moving throughout the working hours. The ideal candidate must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and maintain effective verbal and written communication with co-workers, supervisors, residents, family members, visitors, vendors, and all external business associates.
