Job description:

Responsible for providing comprehensive support to the Human Resources department in various areas, including hourly staffing, hiring, orientation, training, employee testing, employee relations, and maintaining accurate records and documentation. Additionally, this role includes supporting the safety and workers’ compensation program and assisting the Payroll and Benefits department. The position supervises all HR personnel, including any temporary staff within the department.

Major Responsibilities and Tasks / Duties of the Position:

Talent Acquisition and Retention (Non-exempt) – 30%

  • Lead the facility’s Talent Acquisition efforts for non-exempt positions, ensuring a robust selection process that identifies high-quality candidates aligned with the company’s standards.
  • Collaborate with operational and support leaders to maintain sufficient staffing levels in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Oversee the onboarding, training, and supervision of temporary employees, acting as the liaison with the facility’s temporary staffing agencies.
  • Partner with hiring managers to facilitate a smooth onboarding process for new employees, while championing the facility’s New Hire Orientation program.
  • Engage closely in the department’s succession planning initiatives for non-exempt positions.

Compliance – 10%

  • Work alongside the HR Manager to formulate and execute the facility’s annual Affirmative Action Plans and related EEO initiatives, ensuring adherence to applicable legal guidelines.
  • Guarantee compliance with I-9 completion and E-Verify system entries.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws at all times.

Employee/Labor Relations – 35%

  • Provide leadership for recognition and reward programs to enhance employee participation and satisfaction.
  • Advise managers and supervisors on the progressive discipline process, as well as offering guidance on employment-related issues.
  • Foster an inclusive work environment, monitoring organizational culture to support company goals and improve employee engagement.
  • Design, implement, manage, and enhance HR programs aimed at fostering employee engagement and satisfaction.
  • Counsel managers and supervisors during employee investigations, counseling, and termination processes to ensure fair and equitable treatment.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of company policies and practices, ensuring consistent application throughout the organization.
  • Execute prompt investigations and resolve employee issues efficiently.
  • Track and respond to disciplinary action requests from department supervisors/managers, reviewing decisions in accordance with established practices.

Human Resources Department Supervision and Coordination – 15%

  • Oversee daily operations and responsibilities of the HR staff, including recordkeeping, payroll processing, customer service, wellness events, temporary employee acquisition, leave administration, and benefits administration.
  • Provide training to HR staff on any relevant legal updates or standards to maintain compliance.
  • Ensure that organizational policies and procedures are effective, processed timely, accurately, and in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Prepare and analyze departmental data to evaluate HR accomplishments against established goals, recommending new approaches and improvements as necessary.
  • Coordinate regular and surprise audits to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and mitigate errors in internal data processing.

Other – 10%

  • Adhere to all food safety requirements and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as relevant to this position.
  • Ensure the integrity and continuity of the food safety system during organizational or personnel transitions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact in the absence of the HR Manager.
  • Support special projects as assigned.
  • Provide translation services for internal and external documents as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills

Job Specific Competencies:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a Human Resources role with generalist responsibilities, preferably in the produce industry, along with at least 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and database programs, particularly ADP, Workforce timekeeping systems, ACCESS, or HRIS.
  • Strong working knowledge of state and federal employment laws.
  • Bilingual proficiency, tailored to the workforce needs of the location, is essential for both oral and written communication.

Physical Requirements:

Experience & Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience/training is required/preferred.
