Responsibilities

The HVAC Branch Manager is responsible for overseeing a team of technicians dedicated to installing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC and refrigeration systems for commercial clientele. This role requires close collaboration with service and installation technicians, dispatch personnel, and other management staff to ensure both customer satisfaction and the achievement of departmental goals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting interviews, screening, and evaluating HVAC technicians to align with workload demands.
  • Scheduling, directing, and providing technical support to HVAC technicians to fulfill service requirements and meet customer expectations.
  • Reviewing technicians’ work processes, techniques, and safety compliance to ensure quality standards are met, along with making recommendations for improvement.
  • Identifying staff training needs and implementing a regular training program to keep HVAC technicians proficient in the latest service techniques and safety protocols.
  • Ensuring adherence to all health and safety regulations and policies, including the provision of appropriate safety training for employees.
  • Managing staff performance appraisals, establishing measurable improvement goals in accordance with company standards.
  • Collaborating with technicians in the field to resolve customer and technician inquiries.
  • Maintaining regular communication with dispatch to ensure personnel scheduling is efficient and based on skill level, efficiency, and training requirements.
  • Reporting daily to dispatch regarding project statuses, estimated completion times, labor hours, and materials used.
  • Reviewing work orders, invoices, and time reports for accuracy and maintaining minimal accounts receivable.
  • Developing and monitoring departmental budgets, goals, and objectives to ensure profitability.
  • Keeping communication channels open with vendors and factory representatives regarding warranty issues, product recalls, operational challenges, and other relevant matters.
  • Monitoring assigned service vehicles to ensure proper maintenance, adherence to company policy, and adequate inventory of necessary parts and materials.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of recent and successful experience in HVAC and refrigeration service management.
  • Preferred qualifications include two years of technical training or a bachelor’s degree.
  • Proven ability to perform advanced maintenance and service on HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, with aptitude for learning new systems.
  • EPA Universal Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict management skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously.
  • Innovative mindset with the ability to generate ideas and create processes to enhance service department growth.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
