Responsibilities
The HVAC Branch Manager is responsible for leading a team of technicians who install, repair, and maintain HVAC and refrigeration systems for commercial clients. In this role, the manager collaborates closely with service and installation technicians, dispatch personnel, and fellow managers to ensure high customer satisfaction while achieving departmental objectives. As a senior representative of the company, the Branch Manager frequently communicates with customers, vendors, and suppliers to ensure effective communication regarding job or project statuses and requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting interviews, screening, and evaluating HVAC technicians to meet operational demands.
- Scheduling, directing, and providing technical support to HVAC technicians, ensuring service delivery meets customer expectations.
- Reviewing technicians’ work and safety compliance to guarantee quality standards and recommending improvements for productivity.
- Identifying training needs and facilitating an ongoing training program to ensure HVAC technicians are up-to-date on the latest service techniques and safety procedures.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and conducting appropriate employee safety training.
- Performing staff performance appraisals and establishing improvement goals in accordance with company policies.
- Collaborating with field technicians to resolve issues that arise for both customers and technicians.
- Maintaining regular communication with dispatch to ensure proper scheduling based on skill level and training requirements.
- Reporting daily to dispatch on project updates, estimated completion times, labor hours, and materials used.
- Reviewing work orders, invoices, and time reports for accuracy, while minimizing accounts receivable.
- Developing and monitoring departmental budgets, goals, and objectives to drive profitability.
- Liaising with vendors and factory personnel on warranty issues, product recalls, operational challenges, and premature failures.
- Monitoring service vehicles to ensure compliance with maintenance and inventory standards.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of successful and recent service management experience in HVAC and refrigeration.
- Preferably, a background in technical training or a bachelor’s degree.
- Advanced-level maintenance and servicing capabilities for HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, with an aptitude for learning new systems.
- EPA Universal Certification.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict management skills.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to devise ideas and processes to enhance departmental service.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting safety rules, operational instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work closely with management, executive leadership, support staff, and technicians.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
