Vector’s partner, a global manufacturer of petrochemicals, specialty chemicals, and oil products located in Ashtabula, Ohio, is seeking an Industrial Maintenance Supervisor. This is a direct hire position offering a salary range of $80,000 to $100,000 per year, complemented by a generous potential annual bonus contingent on performance targets.
Job Summary:
The Industrial Maintenance Supervisor is tasked with overseeing the maintenance department, aiming to achieve optimal outcomes while enhancing safety, environmental standards, quality, cost efficiency, and reliability by fully utilizing the capabilities of all employees. The Supervisor is responsible for the professional development of maintenance personnel through coaching, feedback, and targeted assignments, utilizing dialogue, the core competency model, and development plans. This role is designated as Safety Critical.
Responsibilities:
- Direct maintenance mechanics to ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-efficient execution of maintenance and plant operations.
- Guarantee that all tasks are performed in accordance with established standards, procedures, and applicable codes, ensuring compliance with departmental policies, ISO procedures (where applicable), and the collective bargaining agreement.
- Ensure compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM), Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, and relevant Corporate Policies to uphold safety in all operations.
- Maintain focus on the company’s long-term goals while assuming accountability for daily outcomes and driving enhancements in safety, environmental stewardship, quality, cost, and reliability, including policy and procedure modifications.
- Conduct monthly safety meetings and toolbox talks, ensuring continued adherence to safety protocols, safe work practices, and housekeeping standards.
- Coach and motivate technicians, fostering teamwork and pride within the crew while clearly communicating plant goals, standards, and expectations, ensuring accountability among team members.
- Promote an inclusive workplace environment free from discrimination, treating all individuals with respect.
- Oversee the performance and development of maintenance staff through continuous feedback, coaching, counseling, and recognition efforts.
- Facilitate collaborative solutions to work-related challenges among employees, departments, and various workgroups.
- Assist the Planner/Scheduler and other Supervisors in job estimation and the resolution of workflow issues.
- Ensure availability of tools, equipment, and resources necessary for employees to safely and competently complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Availability to work day shifts and provide coverage during off-hours as needed.
Requirements:
- A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. An Associate degree in a maintenance-related field is preferred. Certified journeyman status in a mechanical trade is advantageous in lieu of a degree.
- At least 10 years of maintenance experience in a chemical manufacturing environment is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory, coordinating, or group leader role directing and leading others is preferred.
- Experience managing in a unionized environment is desirable.
- Proficient knowledge and experience in the maintenance and repair of rotating equipment, exchangers, piping, and valves within an industrial context.
- Familiarity with maintenance best practices and understanding the impact of reliability on unit operations.
- Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), particularly SAP, is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is preferred.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to foster and maintain cooperative relationships among employees, peers, and supervisors.
- Consistently uphold high standards while modeling appropriate behaviors.
- Capable of effectively managing performance, championing change, and influencing team dynamics.
