Job description:

We are currently seeking Infrastructure Support Technicians to engage on-site at a prominent pharmaceutical institution in Kalamazoo, MI. This is a long-term project with the following responsibilities:

As an Infrastructure Support Technician, you will be responsible for the physical installation and replacement of network equipment, including rack and stack procedures, as well as updating documentation in accordance with customer installation and qualification guidelines. Your duties will include laying and maintaining cabling for networking and storage in Data Centers and server rooms, as well as removing cables that are no longer needed. You will also document all cabling modifications, including additions, moves, and deletions.

Scope of Work:
On-site Data Center support is required from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Each Infrastructure Support Technician will be assigned a 9-hour shift, including a 1-hour lunch break, to ensure adequate coverage during these hours of operation.

Additionally, the role requires participation in a rotating schedule for "After Hours" Hands and Eyes support, necessitating occasional evening or weekend site visits. Technicians will also maintain a rotating schedule for "Tape Load" requirements in the Data Centers over the weekends.

You will assist the client in the asset management process by entering updates into the client’s Asset Management database for any new hardware installed and removing entries for any hardware replaced. With guidance from the client, you will install new servers (HP, Dell, or IBM systems) into existing racks.

In this role, you will provide “Hands & Eyes” support to internal technical teams, following their direction to assist with various data center tasks, such as checking server statuses, monitoring error lights on network switches, and patching specific ports on routers or panels. You will also support numerous data center requests during Hands and Eyes support.

Your responsibilities will include managing tape loads, backup, and offsite storage requirements, as well as assisting with Data Center power-down/up procedures when required for testing, cooling, electrical work, or other facility-related tasks—most of which will likely take place over weekends.

Further documentation, labeling, and mapping of the data center will be part of your tasks, and you will be expected to meet and escort visitors or vendors to the data center.

Requirements:

  1. Intermediate level of subject matter knowledge to address a variety of common business issues.
  2. Ability to work on problems/projects of moderately complex scope.
  3. Capability to exercise independent judgment within defined practices and procedures.
  4. Function as an informed team member contributing to informational analysis and limited project direction input.
  5. Adherence to established guidelines and interpretation of policies.
  6. Ability to evaluate unique circumstances and offer recommendations.
  7. Required experience: 3-7 years.
