Job description:

Summary: The successful candidate will assist the instructor in general classroom operations, oversee student work groups, and undertake various related responsibilities as assigned by the instructor and/or administration. This role may involve substituting for the instructor and coordinating student clinical training at off-site locations. Non-instructional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, aiding in the development of materials, performing clerical tasks, grading assignments, maintaining equipment, and managing disciplinary activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This position operates under the general supervision of administration and may encompass the following tasks (not an exhaustive list):

  • Instruction:

    • Collaborate with the instructor to prepare for daily lessons by gathering and organizing materials and arranging necessary equipment.
    • Provide supplemental support to students struggling to grasp instructional content or to those who missed the original presentation by reiterating key concepts.
    • Assist the instructor in preparing educational activities, setting up classroom environments, and developing specialized instructional materials.
  • Management and Supervision:

    • Monitor student groups and individuals within classroom and clinical settings.
    • Temporarily substitute for the instructor as needed.
    • Arrange for and supervise students during clinical experiences and proctor examinations.
    • Support students engaged in desk-bound study and maintain adherence to Career Center and program behavioral standards, referring violations to the instructor or appropriate administrators when necessary.
    • Consult with the instructor on program goals, needs, and an appropriate instructional strategy. Engage counselors, as approved, to assist in student behavioral modifications.
  • Record Keeping:

    • Maintain accurate records of grades and student attendance using established systems.
    • Document student skills, grading daily assignments, and confer with the instructor regarding necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Safety:

    • Report any accidents, unsafe conditions, or hazards to the instructor and/or administration.
    • Adhere to established safety protocols to foster a secure classroom environment.
  • Maintenance and Repair:

    • Conduct routine housekeeping and minor repairs of classroom equipment.
    • Assist the instructor with significant machinery or equipment repairs.
  • Equipment and Supply Inventory:

    • Collaborate with the instructor to complete inventory assessments.
    • Fulfill the role of instructor when required and participate in open houses, conferences, and other school-sponsored activities as necessary.
    • Regular and consistent in-person attendance is essential for this position.
  • Other Duties: Undertake various additional responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience: Candidates must possess one of the following qualifications: (1) a high school diploma or equivalent paired with 4,000 hours of relevant paid experience in healthcare within the last ten years, or (2) a minimum of 60 semester hours of satisfactory credit (grade "C" or better) from accredited institutions, subject to state requirements. Preference will be given to licensed Registered Nurses (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN); candidates with an Associate’s degree and a Medical Assistant or Certified Nurse Assistant license will also be considered favorably. Additional preference may be extended to those with experience in long-term care settings with geriatric populations, or those holding Train the Trainer certification. Proof of relevant education and experience must accompany the application.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A State of Michigan License (RN, LPN, MA, CNA, or equivalent health professional license) is required. Upon hire and annually thereafter, the employee must obtain the necessary annual authorization or substitute teaching permit. A valid Michigan driver’s license with a good driving record is mandatory. Candidates should also be willing to obtain a Michigan Commercial Driver License (CDL) – Group B, with a Passenger endorsement, passing the CDL physical examination if needed. A clean driving record (no more than 6 points) is required.

Employment Date, Salary, and Fringe Benefits: Anticipated start date is as soon as possible. Salary placement will be based on qualifications and experience, with an hourly pay range of $19.44 to $29.09 for new employees.
