Job description:
The Clinic Supervisor is accountable for supervising cosmetology students in a monitored salon environment during the summer session, which occurs outside the K-12 academic year. This role is integral in assisting students to translate theoretical knowledge into practical application, ensuring they fulfill the 1,500-hour state requirement for cosmetology licensure. The Supervisor is committed to maintaining a safe, professional, and nurturing learning atmosphere while diligently recording and tracking student progress.

The working hours for this position are set for Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the summer program running from June 9, 2025, to July 3, 2025.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following tasks under the general supervision of administration:

– Conduct student orientations on clinic operations, encompassing salon duties, sanitation protocols, dispensary and stock room management, client record maintenance, and front desk operations.
– Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures to foster a safe working environment for both students and staff.
– Cultivate a professional and respectful clinic atmosphere that emphasizes exceptional customer service and essential workplace skills.
– Promote an environment characterized by respect and rapport among students and staff.
– Regularly assess students’ skills, techniques, and overall accomplishments.
– Update student records and monitor attendance for state licensure requirements while ensuring accuracy and completeness in all record-keeping processes.
– Maintain an updated skills checklist of offered services.
– Ensure that salon tools, equipment, and facilities are maintained according to industry standards; report any maintenance or inventory needs to administration.
– Manage the computerized appointment system and service lists effectively.
– Set up the cash register and accurately handle financial transactions.
– Comply with all institutional and Board of Education policies and guidelines, remaining informed of district and program updates via the designated district e-mail account.
– Stay abreast of current industry standards and practices.
– Participate in professional development opportunities, some of which may occur outside of contractual work hours.
– Regular and predictable in-person attendance is a requirement for this position.
– Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or Adult & Career Education Supervisor.

Education and Experience Requirements:

– Candidates must meet all criteria established by the State of Michigan for acquiring and maintaining a Cosmetology Instructor’s license, which includes a minimum of three years of relevant practical experience.
– A demonstrated track record of successful collaboration with peers is essential.
– Proficiency in basic computer skills is required.
– Preference may be given to candidates with prior experience as cosmetology instructors.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

Candidates must hold and maintain a Michigan Cosmetology Instructor’s license. Priority may be granted to those able to obtain the necessary professional certification and endorsement for the role of a Michigan high school Cosmetology Instructor upon hire.
